Disclaimer: I do not own Rookie Blue.
Rated: T, because I think I said 'hell' in it. Idk.
A/N: Another drabble, this time much shorter, all about should and shouldn't and what's right.
Set after the events of season 2, episode 2, 'Might Have Been', in 3rd person, from Dov's POV.
I hope you enjoy!
Dov Epstein. Set after 'Might Have Been'.
He means what he says to Chris. He shouldn't have gone to Beatrice's house off-duty.
It's the truth.
But he's still having a hard time accepting that.
The only thing he's ever really wanted is to protect people. Sure, he'll go on about the action and adventure, but at the end of the day he didn't become a cop so he could drive fast and carry a gun. If that was all he cared about, he could just have easily become an armed bank robber.
He's a police officer because he wants to save people. He couldn't save his brother – and he's never going to be able to forgive himself for that. He's where he is now because he's desperate to do some good in the world. But while trying to do some good in Beatrice's world, trying to get her seek out help about her abusive boyfriend, he got nailed to the wall, repeatedly told to mind his own business in the future and keep his head down like a good cop.
He hates that even when they know something's going on, they can't do anything about it until someone comes to them to report it. He knows how many cases of domestic abuse and the like go unreported, and it's a hell of a lot more than do get reported. He's not sure he knows how to stand by and let that go.
You are a rookie. Don't forget it.
If still sticking to his own code of what's right and wrong even when the book is trying to tell you otherwise means he's a rookie … then yeah, he's a rookie.
He can't bring himself to regret it, either.
Because he shouldn't have gone to Beatrice's house last night, especially not alone, but he still thinks he did what was right.
The end.
