Disclaimer, I don't own Percy Jackson and the Olympians and I don't own the charactors.
Annabeth sat on the beach, the waves lapping against her bare feet. She had given up on crying, it wasn't worth it. In her hands was her camp necklace and she rubbed the black bead with a green trident etched onto it between her fingers. She stared out into the sea like she expected Percy to appear out of the waves at any second. He would rise up out of the sea, his memory intact. He would run over and kiss her. But it never happened.
Rachel watched her friend from the shadows of the trees where she could not be seen. She watched Annabeth breathe deeply and touch the water with the tips of her fingers. The water approached her as if to comfort her, to soothe her pain. Rachel looked away, she couldn't bare to see her friend like this. She thought back to when Annabeth and her had bounced off each like magnets, permanently throwing insults at each other and calling each other behind their backs. So much had changed. She walked forward slowly and knelt beside Annabeth, she didn't care that her knees were getting soaked.
"Get up" she said quietly. She grabbed Annabeth's sleeve and tugged it until she rose from the sand.
"Why?" Annabeth asked. She sounded dismal. Depressed even. Rachel pulled her face, she was not going to lose Annabeth like she'd lost Percy. She walked off the beach, practically dragging Annabeth along with her. She dragged Annabeth to the Athena cabin. On the side next to Annabeth's bed sat her iPod which was plugged into her iPod dock. Rachel pointed to it.
"Turn it on" she ordered. Annabeth gave her a funny look, trudged over and pressed the button on the top. Some random depressive song began to play. Annabeth's shoulders drooped and she looked at the floor. Rachel stared at Annabeth exasperated. She walked over and changed the song. She turned it up to full volume and the music blared out of the speakers so loud it made the girls ears pound. Rachel grabbed Annabeth's hand and started spinning around like an idiot. Annabeth gave her friend a weird look.
"What the heck are you doing?" she asked. Rachel ignored her and continued to spin around. Annabeth laughed slightly as Rachel crashed into her brothers table. She started spinning around as well. The girls danced around each other, jumping around like 5 year olds. Rachel didn't care how stupid she looked, she had succeeded in her mission. To make Annabeth smile. Rachel stopped dancing and jumped up onto Annabeth's bed, being careful not to step on her laptop. She grabbed Annabeth's hair brush and sang.
"Girl, put your records on,
tell me your favourite song,
You go ahead let your hair down." Rachel stuck the hair brush in front of Annabeths face, she got the picture.
"Sapphire and faded jeans,
I hope you get your dreams" she sang. Rachel jumped down next to Annabeth. They both sang.
"Just go ahead let your hair down."
People all over the camp turned and looked at the Athena cabin where 2 girls voices were screaming out the lyrics to an all time classic. They recognised the girls voices. And they all simultaneously smiled.
