FEAR (Based off Time After Midnight episode)

He thought he'd known fear, he thought he'd known what it felt like to feel having the rug pulled out from under him, and he thought he knew how hard it was to fight back when someone threw an unexpected punch your way. He was wrong. One minute he was looking at the papers at the desk, the next thing he knew he was hearing glass break, and the next thing he was doing was looking at the dynamite on the floor.

His life flashed before his eyes. Pictures of his father, his mother, his brothers, all three of them, and Audra flashed before him. The laughter, the tears, the good times and the bad; his heart froze as he realized he may never be with them again. Then it went off and he was thrust backwards and the boards fell, dust rose as if to cover up an ugly, unforgivable scene. The noise was deafening.

He heard the doors being busted down, "Jarrod! Jarrod!" He heard Nick calling out for him, fear was in his voice. He felt their arms, Heath's and Nick's….he blinked his eyes, nothing…nothing but darkness. Now, he knew fear.

He thought he'd known what hope was, he thought he knew what strength was, he thought he knew what family was…until he sat in the doctor's office and realized he may never see again, but his family was there. His brothers fought for him, his mother refused to do for him what he could do for himself and his sister gave him her support too. When he stumbled and fell, feeling sorry for himself, they refused to budge and stood by him.

When the enemy came he amazed himself by fighting back as if he had the use of two good eyes. He forced them onto his ground, forced them to stumble around, and he gained the upper hand. He won. They lost. He knew then it didn't matter if he got his sight back or not…he had grown, he had learned, and he was better for it.
