Soul Marks had always been a rare blessing, but by the time Connor and Murphy MacManus were born, they were all but forgotten save for in legend. They were still spoken of, in a respect, soulmates, some still earnestly believed, but the true power, the magic, was remembered by very few.
One of those very few was Adeline MacManus.
When her beautiful baby Grandsons were born, a little early, a bit on the small side, but healthy, it was a blessing beyond all others. Adeline was a religious woman, just like any other good Irish Catholic, but she'd been raised with a mixture of the old and the new. Religion and Culture, one could say. Regardless, of how it was stated; Adeline remembered the power and magic of her people.
Adeline MacManus saw the "twin birthmarks" just as everyone else. They were curious marks. Twin intertwining Four Leaf Clovers, one nurse had said smiling brightly at the gorgeous baby boys. A blessing or maybe a sign; a message from the Motherland, another had joked. Their marks were positioned just below the boys tiny rapidly beating hearts, strangely iridescent, quite peculiar and noted as such by many, but ultimately dismissed.
Adeline MacManus, however, saw them for what they really were: Soul Marks. What was more, the strange iridescent hue: they were already bonded.
It had been legend for most of Adeline's life as well; Soul Marks, Soul Bonds, Soulmates. Tales told to children around the evening fire almost out of habit by then, but somehow no less revered. A way to keep the magic of their people alive. Balance, as with most tales told of days long past, remained at the center of it all. It was beautiful, revered, dictated with the utmost respect, but legend none the less.
Until now.
Whatever Adeline had once thought of such things no longer mattered. Carefully, she watched the tiny angels, such beautiful blessings- she would protect them with her everything. As twilight fell, Adeline continued to watch the tiny babes curled around one another in a single bassinet, somehow balance incarnate.
Balance; joy and sorrow; calm and chaos; peace and war; life and death. Balance- the natural order of the universe. The way of their people. The source of their power, their magic; their very existence. Without balance, it was all for naught. Old ways; ancient ways; not yet completely forgotten. Their way; as was evident by the twin iridescent marks gracing her grandbabies flesh.
A blessing and a sign; a message from the Motherland indeed. Adeline received it, accepted it, understood it. It was time to return to their roots. I was time to go home.
Adeline sat beside the bassinet rocking the angelic babes gently; planning, preparing, praying.
A/N: This is my first Saint's fic and I'm just getting a feel for them, so if you have suggestions, comments; whatever let me know. Constructive criticism is actually welcome here. Please don't be a dick about it, though, I can be sensitive as fuck sometimes, and negativity is bad for the soul. Chapter two will get more into everything and where we're going with the whole shebang.
This Fic is mostly canon compliant. I feel like the timeline may be a little off, cause the movies timeline is like... St Patty's Day, Bar Fight Night, Murder Day, Jail Night, Murder Day, Rocco's Place, Murder Day, then Rocco says the thing about Vincenzo, but like that's Wednesday. Rocco's Murder Day was Saturday... I believe... If you know let me know lol, but this is gonna maybe a mite stretched out time wise, also Conphry. lol.
Anyway, we're following the first movie cats and kittens, and while we might see flash backs or the boys thoughts from the scenes we all know and love, it won't be repetitive and all written out. (Maybe the Courtroom Speeches cause I fuckin' love that scene).
We're gonna get into angst, guilt, anger, internal conflict, violence, love, fluff, smut eventually ect. A little bit of everything, in a hopefully what will be an enjoyable manor lol. It's gonna be a long fic, I think, so I hope you guys all hang with me.
One last note about Druids. Their true ways have been lost to time and misconception. Evidence has surfaced that they were more of a class of people instead of strictly a Religious Sect, but we're going with Religion in this. The writings of conquerors such as Julius Caesar can't exactly be relied on lol, and much of what was known is lost. If you know better, let me know lol. I love history. That being said, unfortunately, historically this story will not be completely accurate, because I have no way of making it so. The legends, belief systems, ect. as far as the Druids go are just me being me. This is getting longer than the damn prologue!
Please Read, Hopefully Enjoy, And Let Me Know Either Way! :-)
