Not Your Everyday, Average Fairytale

A Beauty and the Beast drabble story. My first try at writing this couple I love so much!

A - Anniversary

He sensed her arrival and immediately set down his book and went to greet her. They ended up sitting together in a quiet chamber off of the main pipeline, watching circles of light reflecting in a deep whirl pool. Her petite body sagged against his much larger one.

"Tired?" He asked although he already knew.

"Yes. It's been a long, long week. I was so worried that with everything going on above that I wouldn't be able to come here and see you. I miss you so much when you're not right there beside me." She looked up at him with a magnificent if weary smile. "Do you know what today is, Vincent?"

"Indeed, I do."

"I should have guessed you would know," she said with another smile. "It's the anniversary of the night you rescued me after I was thrown out of that van. You are a true hero to me and everyone else who knows you."

He chuckled lightly. "A hero? Now that's going a bit too far." He sobered noticeably. "If people just got a look at me, they would see a monster…"

"Outward appearances don't mean anything," Catherine said vehemently. "Besides I think you are quite debonair and beautiful."

"But you do know that I can never go above with you, Catherine."

"I know, and that's why I will ask you once again… Let me come below and be with you forever."

"Catherine, your life –"

"Is meaningless without you, Vincent."

"Don't say that. Besides, if your life was meaningless, I would never have bothered trying to help you a year ago."

"You did that because you are gentle and kind. You could not even turn away a small sewer rat with beady eyes if they were in need."

"Oh now you are elevating me to a pedestal on which I don't belong on."

"Vincent, you are far too humble. You are the most amazing man I have ever met. And yes, I mean man. That's what you are to me."

"It's not what I really am," Vincent insisted.

Catherine lifted her head to his eye level and then pressed a soft but sensual kiss to his lips that left him growling a little, deep in his throat. When she pulled back, she whispered, "You are every bit a man to me, Vincent, and no one will ever convince me otherwise."

"I may respond as any man would to a beautiful woman, but make no mistake, Catherine; I am a monster and it's best - as I've been telling you – that you not come back here."

"I am not going to stop coming down here, Vincent," Catherine whispered. "You have my soul and you have since the night we met. Asking me to stay away … it's like asking me to cut the beating heart out of my chest."

"Catherine –"

She covered his lips with two gentle fingers. "Vincent, I believe that someday we'll be together. Perhaps that day is coming soon than later…"
