I saw that day
lost in my mind.
She couldn't take it anymore. Her moment of weakness was here.
Her knees gave in, and she shouted his name into the empty air.
He had taken the hit for her from that damn Uchiha boy, who had fled the scene moments ago with his freak show. She used as many medical jutsu's she knew to heal the Chidori wound. Frustrated and still at the high point of her grief, she couldn't do it anymore. Her fumbling, shaking hands gave up on him. She could only watch bleed as she held his hand.
"Just let go…" He whispered to her. It felt like she had been hit with a large block of malice.
"I can't…" She let the tears fall to the grass, slipping into the dirt. He gave her that cocky-bastard grin of his, telling her to just try. She gritted her teeth; this was no time for smiling.
"You're bleeding to death, and you're smiling at the same time…you optimistic bastard…" He smiled weakly. That's why he loved her. She was beautifully pessimistic.
He couldn't comprehend the fact that he was smiling. He was dying, slowly, painfully. And yet, he just couldn't help it.
"…Do you think it'll be okay? Will the Akatsuki be okay?" She said, murmuring beneath her fingers covering her pale face.
"I don't know…and I don't think I ever will…" He gulped in a breath of air, trying to stay alive. She gave a hard swallow.
"Pein…please…please don't go…" He turned his face to her, and mustered up his last words, and somewhat regretting them.
"Give 'em hell Blue…" He closed his eyes, and ceased breathing, and he died with a smile on his face. Her whole body went numb. She couldn't even cry.
The moment was here.
She went back, but just barely, carrying his body around her shoulders, and placed him on his bed, rightfully where he should belong.
She half-expected him to wake up, and half-expected him to come out, as if he were in a coma.
But that damn…damn Uchiha…
She slept underneath the covers of his bed, looking for some sort of comfort. But it just wasn't coming.
"Blue…Blue, wake up…" The light blinded her eyes as she woke up to Kisame shaking her awake. She looked over to Pein, who was still 'asleep'.
She refused to call him dead.
"What's going on?" The water-nin tried to piece together on how he would say this.
"We…have got a new partner for you." She widened her eyes.
"No…no…NO! GET OUT! I WON'T DO IT! GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT NOW!" She threw large plush pillows at him, while simultaneously trying to tell herself it wouldn't happen.
She cried to herself, cried for him. On the other side of the door, the remaining members listened.
"We should have given her more time to cope." Itachi looked over at Kisame.
"No…She'll never get over his death." She ran out of tears quickly, and the few remaining members left peeked through the door, seeing her hand dangling over the bed, two rings on her delicate hand, memories flooding her brain. When Kisame went to try and check on her, and bony hand held him back.
"Just let her be, Kisame. Just let her be."
If you do me down
I'll be some
To find you
I repeat, I'm not emo.
