Checking In
by Satin Ragdoll
McCoy was exhausted, both physically and emotionally. He had just come back from nursing his wife, Natira. It had been a close call. Finally, she was able to eat again, and had gained enough strength to be able to get around on her own. In his past, he had thought it was hard enough when Kirk or Spock had gotten themselves knocked around, and needed patching up. He had almost lost them countless times, and actually lost Spock once. What a disaster that was, even though it turned out okay. It was more than enough.
This, however. This had been monstrous.
He was home, now, and knew what he needed to do. In one way, it would be a relief. In another way, it was probably going to be bloody hard. In a lot of ways, Joanna was just like him: stubborn as the day was long.
He commed her, and sighed when her image came up on the screen. She didn't look so hot, but Natira had looked a lot worse. A lot worse. So seeing Joanna looking pale and tired was actually somewhat comforting.
He smiled, "How's my baby girl?"
Joanna coughed into her hand, "As well as can be expected, considering I'm bored out of my gourd. How's my baby girl, and how are you, Dad? Oh, and how's Natira?"
McCoy chuckled a little. That's his Joanna, always with the questions. "Natira's on the way to recovery. I almost lost her, Joanna. I almost lost her." He shut his eyes in pain for a moment, for what might have been gone forever. "I'm okay. Tired, but okay. And Jamie is doing just fine."
Joanna narrowed her eyes a little, "She's not been too much for you?"
He shook his head, "Nah. Not since I've had Spock here to help me."
Joanna's eyes hardened, "How's he been with her? He hasn't turned her into a little uber-Vulcan, has he?"
McCoy frowned, "No, and I told you he wouldn't. You have to have a little faith, Jo. Yes, he was a pain when he was younger. That was years ago! I still tease him, but I've known him long enough, and have certainly put up with him enough, to have that right! You have not. However, I'm glad you have given him the benefit of a doubt. They actually get along great together!"
Joanna coughed again and raised a brow, "Oh, yeah?"
McCoy grinned, "She has actually softened him up a little! It's so cute! She calls him 'Great Uncle Spock'!"
Joanna laughed so hard McCoy had to remind her to breathe. He didn't want her coughing so hard that she passed out.
Fin.
