Wisdom shall receive all praises,
Shall by each true heart be blessed;
Isaac's son his anthem raises
To extol his mighty guest.
Lo! the first-born of creation,
Formed of God ere time began,
Makes on Earth Her habitation,
Dwells among the sons of man.

Like a palm-tree in En-gedi,
Like a rose in Jericho,
So She throve and made men ready
Fullness of God's grace to know.
To Her bow'r of myrrh and aloe,
Fragrant as the flow'ring vine,
Called She those whom She would hallow:
"Eat My flesh and drink My wine."

Still She cries from ev'ry portal:
"Come, thou soul, and be My friend.
Wealth is Mine and life immortal,
Strength and peace that never end.
Give no ear to sinful folly,
Seek the water none can steal;
So shalt thou be blest and holy
In My everlasting meal."

Hail the Word of God eternal!
Hail uncomprehended Light!
Ye who slept in depths infernal,
Glory in His visage bright!
By His mercies Earth is lavèd
As by Tigris floods in spring;
Hail the mighty Son of David!
Hail forever Christ the King!
