Chapter 1

We lived on a small island just off the coast of Hoenn. It wasn't on any maps, and we rarely had visitors. But the small, comfortable feel made it home for me and some others. We all knew each other, and it was very hard to get lost. The war had yet to reach our island. I was young when it started, and when my mother explained why, it was confusing. I've never asked again why we were at war, and I don't really care. As long as it doesn't affect us, right?

I woke up at 7, like I do every day, and walked down stairs. I met my mom in the kitchen, eating breakfast at the table. "Hey." She greeted, eating another spoonful of Oddish O's. I got a box of cereal out of the cupboard and poured a bowl full of it. Eating silently, I looked out the window.

I did this often, daydreaming. I grew up not knowing many kids my age, and with little to do on the small island, I used to imagine great things. Pokemon battles, having lots of friends, becoming rich and moving to my dream home, Johto… stuff like that. I snapped out of today's daydream when my mom called my name.

"Raven!" She exclaimed, snapping to get my attention. "Huh? Oh, yeah mom?" She rolled her eyes. "I'm going out. When your done with your cereal, do the laundry. Okay?" "Alright." I agreed, not wanting entirely to spend my morning folding. My mom then left out the front door.

I was in the living room, folding one of my shirts, when the ground began shaking. I froze, not knowing what was going on. Earthquake! My mind screamed. I dropped the shirt and scrambled to get under cover. I ended up hiding under the counter in the kitchen, fearing for my life. The earthquake only got worse and worse, never stopping for even a moment.

After about half an hour, and when the shaking felt as if it would make the earth under me split open, the quaking stopped. I looked up, surprised at the damage. Chunks of ceiling and shattered glass littered the cracked floor. There was a crack so deep I swear I saw the red glow of lava in it. I stood up, my legs shaking, and escaped outside. Our house was so destroyed, I started crying. All of my stuff… the memories… and on top if it all, I had lived! I barely had a scratch, and I'd just been in what must have been the worst earthquake in forever.

Oh Arceus, what about mom? I looked around, the sheer scale of damage stunning me. My neighbor's houses were all flattened, they had it even worse than my house had. Tears streaked my eyes. Not only was the place I grew up in destroyed, but my whole neighborhood! Probably the whole island!

I fell down to the ground as an aftershock began. When I fell, my head hit a rock that used to belong to a house's wall. "Help…" I muttered as I blacked out.
