An Outsiders View
This is just a short one-shot, it's how I think it would have been at Kate's funeral. Enjoy!
As I walk in to the church, I can alredy hear people sobbing and crying.
My husband is next to me, as I walk down the isle and sit down in one of the rows. For a while, I just sit there quietly, looking at the beautifully painted glass windows, before something catches my attention.
It's a small group of people, four men and one woman, that's just entering the church, sitting down in the row right across the one that I'm sitting in. I can't help but staring at them, and after a few minutes, I realise that this must be her friends from work, her team. It's an elderly man with glasses and a bowtie, that walks next to a middle - aged man with bright blue eyes. Behind them , a young man, looking slightly lost walks. Last in the line there's a young woman, dressed all in black, with dark mascara streaks down her cheaks. Another young man is supporting her, preventing her from falling to the floor. He is not crying, but his face shows pain, and I can tell that her death is affecting him hard too.
The ceremony starts. A priest is talking about life and death, but I'm not listening, I'm too obsessed with watching the team, her team. They're grieving. The black haired girl has started crying again, looking like she could never be happy again. As the older man comforts her, stroking her back, he starts to cry too. Soon they're all crying, silently, while they meet their friend one last time before they put her into the ground.
One last time.
Suddenly, I can't help but crying too.
The End
