There was a ghost within the Fenton household, one that had no name or past he could remember. He was there, watching, as the Fenton family grew from two to three, and three to four. From what he could tell, he was not a fully-formed ghost. No one could hear him, or see him for that matter. Yet, sometimes, when he was in the room with the youngest, Danny, he would catch himself having a one-sided conversation with the black-haired boy. Sometimes it was about the elder Fentons' newest invention, other times it was questions about school that would not be answered.

The white-haired ghost watched as the black-haired human grew up, forever faithful to the boy. One day, when Danny was fourteen, he and his two friends had gone down to the lab to inspect a failed invention of the boy's parents. Even the ghost, who by then had come to call himself Phantom, had been curious about the invention. It, supposedly, was a portal to the 'Ghost Zone.' Phantom was skeptical, for he himself was a ghost and had yet to see this realm of the dead.

The girl, Sam, had managed to convince Danny into going into the futuristic hole in the wall. Phantom followed Danny into the hole, making sure the boy he had come to call a friend wouldn't get hurt. Danny had tripped a few feet in, putting his hand on the wall to steady himself. Both of the boys' eyes widened in shock when the portal began to hum and the walls lit up green. Electricity sparked off the walls as the ectoplasm-covered walls reacted. Danny was screaming, Phantom thought as he, too, was screaming in anguish. Desperately, Phantom threw himself on top of Danny to try to save him from further harm. He had forgotten that he was not a solid being in those few seconds, but was surprised when he could touch the black-haired boy.

Phantom pushed the boy to his feet and guided him out of the portal. The human fainted immediately after exiting the swirling mass of green. And, for the first time since Phantom died, he was fully visible. White hair, vivid green eyes, and ever so slightly tanned skin. His original clothes were replaced by an exact replica of Danny's hazmat suit, only with inverted colors. Danny was mostly unharmed, except for a few minor burns and a scar on the palm of his hand where he had pressed the button on the inside of the portal. Sam and the boy, Tucker, were standing a few feet away, shocked and afraid.

"He'll be alright," the ghost muttered to himself, knowing the humans would not hear him.

Sam's eyes gleamed with fear as she strode over to her friend. After she was finished looking over Danny's burns, she asked, "Who are you?"

Phantom stared at her for a few moments before he replied, "Phantom."

I really hope you like this! I'm not sure where this is gonna go...It might just end up abandoned like many of my other stories (which I am sorry about, I am more focused on my original works). If I continue this, the chapters will be twice as long. If you review, there is a greater chance of another chapter. Keep that in mind throughout the story.
