(A/N: This is just a little one-shot I wrote to kind of celebrate the end of the HP series as a whole. It's meant to be Snape/Lily, not Snape/Harry, but take it however you want. :D)
Emerald Eyes
By: Mam'zelle Guillotine
Sometimes he just wanted to smack that Potter boy.
He'd always been dreading the day that Harry would come to Hogwarts, but now that he was here, it just seemed to be ten times worse than Severus had imagined.
Potter was just so naïve! Honestly, it almost seemed to be borderline stupidity to Severus. After all, Harry Potter was quite possibly the greatest wizard of his time; you'd think someone would have told him that in the eleven years of the boy's life.
But of course, no one had. And still, there Potter had arrived on the first of September, spellbound and enchanted and completely clueless about everything about him.
Severus thought that maybe he'd had a bit more respect for the boy if he'd ended up in Slytherin. But of course not. That boy had ended up in Gryffindor, just like his father had.
It seemed that Harry was taking on some of his father's own attributes, too. It wasn't just a natural talent for Quidditch that the boy had; it was his whole attitude, along with a talent for mischief. A talent for breaking the rules. Severus could see it getting completely out of hand in the near future.
Sometimes the similarities would just be too much to take, and Severus would feel his hand rising, or his fist clench. But something would always stop him:
Those eyes.
Those bright green eyes the boy had always stopped him in the nick of time. They drew him in, his breath would catch, and he would forget momentarily that he was teaching a lesson, or scolding a student in the hallway, or delivering a message to the headmaster. They would take him back to a time where someone cared about him, and they'd conjure up images of a girl with auburn hair, and those same emerald eyes. A girl he'd loved so much…
Eventually, he'd be able to tear himself away and save himself with a snide remark, but he wondered how long it was going to last. How long it would be until he finally broke down.
Sometimes he just wanted to smack that Potter boy. But he would continue to hold off.
For now.
