Harry looked to either side of him, making sure
no one was watching. The clock on the counter read 5:00, almost time
for Aunt Petunia to get up and start making breakfast for Dudley.
Lately, Harry had been coming out of his room to watch the sun rise.
He wasn't sure what it was, but he felt content watching the blazing ball
of fire rising over the small urban town.
He ran into the kitchen, standing at the window
and pulling the heavy white curtains back. The sky was still dark,
stars slowly disappearing against the deep blue background. The blue
reminded him strangely of his mother.
A voice interrupted his thoughts. "We always
used to watch the sunrise, Lily and I," Petunia said, in a soft voice she
never used, even for Dudley. "It was the only thing we had."
He turned to face her, and saw that his aunt's harsh eyes were red, and
brimming with tears. She wrapped her arms around him, pulling him
to her. "You look just like her, Harry. Just like her.
You have her flare, her will to live... her eyes..." her shoulders
started to shake, and they stood there, silent, the sun rising behind them.
Harry started crying as well, feeling suddenly wanted, like he belonged.
He felt as though he had found his mother. And he had.
A sudden thundering of footsteps pulled them apart.
She looked pleading at him, her eyes begging him to stay silent.
He understood, and as Dudley waddled into the room, his aunt scowled at
his dark hair, saying, "Get the mail, lazy, we haven't got all day."
Smiling, he left the room.
D/C: I do not own anyone, and since the WB took over,
I'm not quite sure who does.
A/N: Ok, that was fun. I've always wanted to write
one of these. Sorry my other stuff is taking so long, I'm in the
middle of updating my site!
