Summary- After Sawyer and Kate attempt to rescue Jack from the others, their effort ends in tragedy.

She just stood there. Watching. Waiting. Expecting something to change. Expecting him to move. But he wasn't moving, his chest wasn't rising, his eye lids weren't fluttering, his lips weren't moving, and his heart wasn't beating. People told her to leave. But she couldn't just leave him. She wasn't ready. She didn't believe she would ever be ready. He had been killed because he had saved her life, and she wanted so bad to save his life, but you can't save a life once it ends.

He had risked his life to save her, and she let him. Her heart was filled with love and happiness for him. Now the only thing that seemed existent was pain and regret. But one thing would always truly remain...love. From the day they arrived on the island, to the day he departed, he had always been a hero. Putting himself before everyone else, and this is what happens to him. He doesn't deserve this, Kate thinks. She remembers the first day they met, the fights they got into that were few and far between, the kiss that they had shared, and the last breath he took.

She kneeled next to him, silently urging him to open his eyes and breathe again. She would do anything just to see his eyes again. But they were closed.

After Sawyer and Kate had left, they had come back to rescue Jack. Sawyer tried to pull her away from his body, when the others killed him as they were on the run. They had gotten Jack out, and were so close to the beach, to the boat that would take them back to their camp. Then, a gun shot was fired and that was it. All it took was one bullet and it ended for him.

As much as she tried, she couldn't contain herself and her tears had been spilling over for the longest time. Jack was gone, and she knew this was true. But she wouldn't dare say it out loud, for the simple fact that it would have made it official.

So all she could do was stare. Stare at the man that loved her and would protect her with all his heart. And that is exactly what he did. She had so many emotions running through her, and she couldn't come to terms with what has happened. She didn't think she could ever could.

The world stopped as her tears hit the ground. The sounds of the waves have to seemed to fade away. The rustling of the trees seamed to die out. And all sound and movement have ended. A life has ended, and will never be forgotten.

She stood up off the ground, the tears still running freely. She turned around and faced the water. She wanted to run again. But she knew she couldn't escape this. Knew she couldn't hide from this. For her world is forever shattered.
