Stefan stared at his glass of bourbon before taking another sip. He sighed, looking away towards the flames crackling in the fireplace, and sharpened his ear in order to listen for any sign of Damon waking up. But no. And the truth was that he did not know if that relieved him or not.
He felt suddenly her arms around his shoulders from behind, and her hands stroking his chest in a comforting way, and her lips against his neck. He closed his eyes, feeling her warmth. Something only she could make him feel.
"Mm."
Caroline smiled at the weak moan that his throat made and she pressed her lips against his skin once again. Stefan lifted his free hand to tangle his fingers in her hair and he turned his face to her.
"Hey" she said in a whisper. Stefan kissed her cheek.
"Hey."
Caroline grabbed his chin and gave him a soft kiss on the lips. He gulped and sighed.
"What do you want?" he asked with a little smile. She opened her eyes widely.
"What do I want?" she asked in a defensive way. "Why do you think I want something?"
"I know you better than anyone, Caroline."
She bit her lower lip and circled the couch to flop onto his side, showing him the mini laptop in her hand.
"I was checking the baby registry for Alaric's baby shower and you haven't chosen what you're going to buy. Yet."
"Caroline…"
"Come on! Look, what about this BabyBjorn?" she tried to show it to him but Stefan was staring at her. "You'd have to order two, though. And…"
Stefan leaned over and kissed the line of her jaw. She smiled and he chuckled against her cheek, and right after he gave her a loving and playful bite on it.
"Stefan!" she exclaimed, laughing and trying to pull him away. He threw his head back and looked at her with sleepy eyes and a playful smirk. "You're drunk."
"I'm not, Caroline" Stefan said, scratching his chin.
"Yeah, sure" she said. "Anyway, look" she put the mini laptop on his thigh. He snorted before taking another drink. "What do you think?"
"Nice, I guess" he replied. She rolled her eyes. "Convince me."
Caroline looked at him with raised eyebrows. Stefan imitated her, challenging her. In the blink of an eye, she grabbed the neck of his shirt and pulled him to her to kiss him. He smiled against her lips, satisfied, and dropped his hand on her thigh to squeeze it. She laughed against his mouth and grabbed his wrist to lead his hand to the keys of the laptop as she kept biting his lower lip.
"Click on it" she said against his lips.
"You haven't convinced me yet" he said.
"I said click on it, Stefan."
He sighed, pulled away and looked at the screen.
"What is that?" he asked with a frown.
"Your gift for Alaric" she said, placing her hand over his and pressing click on the cart once and for all.
"Did you just make me spend $200?" Stefan asked with wide eyes.
"It's for a good cause" she said. "I'm proud of you."
Caroline stood up but Stefan grabbed her wrist this time to stop her and pull her back to him in order to kiss her again. When he pulled away, she smiled at him.
"Hey… Since you're in a good mood…" Caroline rose again and looked around, searching for the right words. "You should know that the other day I used your card again to buy those expensive pajamas of Emidio Tucci for you."
She closed her eyes tightly, waiting for his reaction. She opened an eye and looked at him.
"What?"
"And those rejuvenating moisturizers for men" she continued.
"Caroline, we're vampires."
"You never know, Stefan."
They exchanged a look, like challenging each other mentally to see who would keep discussing. Finally, Stefan sighed.
"You're lucky I love you."
"And that massage chair."
"Caroline!"
