A Single Rose- Prologue
He sobbed. Big tears dropped from his soaking eyes into his now damp pillow. It had been several days since he had found out that his parents had died. He had been told it was a car crash but he didn't remember. And to add to his sorrow he was going to be sent to the orphanage in a few days. It had been a number of hits in one day. He didn't wanted to go but he couldn't remember his name or even who his relatives were, hence he had no choice. His body began to tremble, as his eyes produced more tears.
"Why? Why am I alone? Why did you leave me? Mommy! Daddy! Why did you have to die?" He buried his face into the pillow.
"Why are you crying?" He turned his sad face to the new visitor in his room. His gaze fixed on a pair of curious blue eyes.
His lip began to quiver thinking of his parents but didn't want to admit the harsh truth. "Why would you care anyway?" The tone was cold and empty. He immediately regretted his words when he saw her jump back in surprise.
"I don't like to see anyone crying it hurts me inside." She smiled. "Besides, my mommy had a baby boy today and I brought this rose for her. Here," she reached her small hand out holding a fragile rose within her tiny fingers. "Have it. To help smile on this happy day, and to let you know you aren't alone."
He felt a warm refreshing feeling wash over him as he slowly took the rose from her hand. "Thank you. I wont forget your kindness." He reached under his pillow and grabbed a small object from underneath it. "Here, take this as a gift from me." A small but precious star was in his hand. Lights danced off of it as he held out for her to take. "It plays a tune whenever you open it. I don't know what the tune is called, but it is very special to me. Please take it and never forget me. Please..." She reached her hand out and grabbed the star in his hand. She fiddled with the latch for a moment until finally the locket opened. She closed her eyes as a soothing melody flooded the room.
She smiled at him. "This tune...I've heard it somewhere. The angel in my dreams hums it to me..."
