Speed Addicts.

Dust sprang up into a massive cloud as two speed demons zoomed over the ground with blistering speed. The two blue speedsters looked at each other, their muzzles both embellishing a prideful smirk. The two competed to edge ahead of each other alternately as they both kicked it into high gear.
Sonic and Rainbow Dash had this race planned out since the last Running of the Leaves. Today is the day that the FASTEST, most ANTICIPATED race ever in Ponyville- no, Canterlot- No! , in all Equestria! - NO! In the WHOLE UNIVERSE HAVE EVER SEEN!
Above the action Shadow and Pinkie Pie kept up with the race from above in Pinkie's new Party Balloon: this balloon was shaped like a mini airship that sported a more aerodynamic balloon and undercarriage. The balloon had four large thrusters on each side of the balloon that helped it keep up with the racers; if they keep under 700 miles per hour. Shadow kept his sharp eye on the two with a high powered film camera with the highest technological advanced tracking lenses sensors that can keep up with Sonic's and Rainbow Dash's immense speed; curtsey of Tails. Beside him Pinkie commentated loudly into a microphone for all of Canterlot to witness the phenomenal race of the century.
Massive television screens were set up around the Canterlot Commons where the witnesses of the race were gathered, and waiting for the two to finish the race. Rarity made a killing off of #TeamSonic and #TeamDash T-shirts and clothing accessories. While Applejack made a fortune selling apple themed concessions for the occasion. Tails was standing beside Twilight making final adjustments on his custom 20,000 frames per second camera to judge who won whilst Twilight hovered over him like a hawk, desperate for him to merely ask for a tool so she could provide him with said tool. Knuckles shouted loudly with his #TeamSonic hat on and foam "Thumbs-Up" mitt, waving it around. Amy though, screamed the loudest as "her" hedgehog gained the lead over a steep downhill advantage. And we can't forget the tons of Sonic fan girls and fan boys that were huddled around Amy, joining in the verbose battle cry of admiration and triumphant cheers. Of course our very own Vinyl Scratch was there droppin' bass and fresh beats keeping the crowd alive.

"You tired yet pony?!" Sonic yelled over the rushing air at Rainbow Dash who ignored him, eyeing an upcoming, steep hill with mischief in her eyes and a cocky smirk on her face.
"Not as tired as you'll be Sonic!" She stopped flapping her strong wings as she used her momentum to propel her up and over the hill with ease in one graceful swoop. Sonic on the other hand lost a lot of vital speed running up the grassy hill that fared well against him.

"AND RAINBOW DASH TAKES THE LEAD!" The party pony hollers into the microphone while Shadow zoomed in on the speeding, cerulean pegasus. Rainbow Dash takes notice to the airship above and winks at the camera. Her eyes then concentrated back forward and she puts her heart and soul into everything she had, desperate to take the race before her adversary could catch up.
"HOLD YOUR HORSES EVERYPONY! What is Rainbow Dash do-..?" Pinkie Pie stares in awe as Rainbow Dash quickly gains altitude as the ground sloped downwards; at an exponential, rapid incline, she pumped her wings harder; Shadow expertly keeping up with her every movement. Ever since he and his friends have gotten to Equestria about a year ago he had never seen the Sonic Rainboom in person; looks like it's his lucky day.

A monstrous crack rang out from the monitor speakers and blasted into the ears of the ponies and the Sonic team, earning a very sonorous roar of applause and cheering from the fan boys and fan girls of Rainbow Dash as she performed the Sonic Rainboom. Applejack laughed as she now was standing beside Knuckles. The Echidna's jaw fell as he witnessed Rainbow Dash's speed increase 10 fold. He slowly reached into his "pocket" and drew out a bag of bits, handing them to Applejack who took it with a smirk on her face.

Damn… That hill really messed me up… Sonic ran swiftly to catch up but he could already see Rainbow Dash becoming smaller and smaller in the distance. He then saw her small speck of a body rise into the air. Huh…What is she up to- suddenly; answering his thoughts, a stunning, awesome corona of the light spectrum blazed across the sky, obliterating clouds and stirring up the trees and grass around. A couple of seconds later he was then blundered by the belly throbbing *thump* of the sound barrier breaking. Sonic smirked then narrowed his eyes and got serious.
Real serious.
"WOOOOOoooooOOOOo! LOOKS LIKE DASHIE HAVE THIS RACE EVERYPONY! CLOSING ALL BETS! DASHIE GOT THIS RACE IN THE BAG!" Pinkie Pie screamed with utter joy into the microphone.
"Don't be so sure about that..." Shadow butted in, implying that Sonic is not done yet. He angled the camera back at Sonic as he started to dip down lower to the ground as he gained speed rapidly using his figure 8 techniques.
On the camera Sonic narrowed his eyes with his never hindered determination towards the disappearing rainbow trail and smirked.

Rainbow Dash smiled triumphantly as she could see the outer boundaries of Equestria come into view and the tiny image of the Canterlot castle slowly was made apparent into her vision. She gritted her teeth and pumped her wings harder eager to end this race as quickly as possible. The cerulean pegasus looked down on her chest and eyed the tiny vial of purple colored potion.
"Told that egghead I didn't need it." She said cockily, instantaneously she felt a massive pressure from behind, followed by an intense bright flash of light. She suddenly heard a crack in the distance behind her, knowing it was Sonic breaking the sound barrier. She then looked back at her vial; a quick look of desperation to win sparkled in her determined, magenta eyes.
She looked back with worried eyes and saw a golden missile coming towards her with intense velocity.

"Told yah," Shadow said curtly, he smirked and focused the camera on Sonic as well as he could while he blasted across the land. Pinkie on the other hand stared in amazement and I mean UTTER amazement as she saw Sonic flash a gold color then boosting off faster than the camera could keep up with him.
Shadow smirked then snapped his fingers to teleport the balloon to Sonic's new position.

Sonic flew in a golden blur towards the rainbow trail just as his sharp, crimson eyes saw the speeding pegasus look back in shock at him she began tinkering with something on her neck. He gained up quicker on her watching her curiously as she gulped down something with haste.
Within a few seconds she started to slow down, her rainbow trail in the sky started to go in flux and Sonic felt a familiar surge of energy coming off of her in waves, the type of energy he feels when he charges the chaos emeralds to their fullest extent; when he goes into hyper mode. The same exact feeling he gets just before he uses Time Control. Sonic charges up his emeralds inside of himself and focused hard within him. He will have to go hyper… or even ultra to win now.
"WHAT THE BUCK IS HAPPENING?!" Pinkie Pie shouted her body almost out of the cockpit of the airship as she leaned forward with awe glistening in her large eyes. "LOOKS LIKE SONIC AND RAINBOW DASH IS GETTING PRETTY CRAZY!" Pinkie pie hollers into the microphone, Shadow catching every moment of it; he too is very interested in what was going on.
He took his eye off the camera as he started to feel the energy that was pulsating off of Rainbow Dash in massive waves. "No way." He said under his breath.
The two speeding speedsters sped speedily towards the finish line at sub reentry speeds! Heat and sound was emanating from both of their bodies. ULTRA SONIC AND RAINBOW DASH PEELED BACK THE FABRIC OF TIME AND SPACE AS THEY COARSED THROUGH THE AIR! Right before they crossed over the finish line Rainbow Dash's body went into a paragon of flux while Sonic's flashing white body flashed a blinding light making them both to disappeared with an ear-shattering crack that knocked out every power source and everything that wont anchored down.

"Sonic has been in hundreds of races and he NEVER loses! Sonic can even go the speed of light! And you're telling me that Rainbow Dash has even the slightest possibility to win?" Tails argued at Twilight, the latter who was standing beside him even closer than before, her face was frustrated as they was going on and on about who'll win.
"But look at the velocity Rainbow Dash is going after her consumption the vial she should be going 5 times her current speed which should be around 16,000 mph; and with my calculations she should be here within a few seconds!"
"Sonic would still beat her because he is also going at or more than 16,000 mph! He will pull it off towards the end!"
"I BET HE WONT!" screamed Twilight.
"I BET YOU ANYTHING THAT HE WILL!"
"FINE TAKE ME OUT TONIGHT TO THE MOST ROMANTIC RESTAURANT IF DASH WINS!"
"DEAL!"
Tails, in the moment not recognizing what he just agreed to shook her hoof. Twilight looked triumphant as Tails finally realized what she said.
"Wait, what!?" Tails yelled.

The sonic team and the rest of the mane 6 stood by the speed cameras waiting for their friends' arrival over the finish line. They looked on with anticipation as they bolted towards them.
Tails could see them both coming in dangerously fast and several sensors went off in Tails' smart tablet he was carrying with him for diagnostics. Tails' face became frightened as he double checked his sensors and screamed to the top of his lungs "EVERYPONY GET DOWN!" Sadly only the mane6, his friends and a few bystanders heard his shout and just as Sonic and Rainbow Dash came into the vicinity. Every building they past by basically were reduced to rubble, their speed tore up the ground below and even the air around them exploded. They reached the point where the finish line was and without a trace they disappeared with a mighty, extrapolated CRACK that blew away and collapsed anypony that didn't get down or was behind something sturdy.
After a few seconds of silence besides the moaning and groaning of the ponies around them, the Mane6 and Sonic team got up on their feet and looked around for their speedy friends. But to no avail as the only things they saw were ponies lying around on the ground and the buildings with all their windows busted down and even some of the buildings had completely collapsed.
Seeing the whole episode take place Shadow teleported out of the balloon and materialized next to Knuckles and the rest of his friends. Shadow and Tails looked around for any evidence to where Sonic and Rainbow dash disappeared to. Without a doubt the whole crew including the Mane6 was totally in shock at what happened.
