Disclaimer: If I were J.K. Rowling I would be trying to fight off the paparazzi, not sitting in the dark typing an irrational love story on my laptop, really…and the lyrics in the story are from the song Hungry Eyes, by Eric Carmen
A boy about the age of seventeen or so lay on the grass in front of a sparkling blue lake, watching the downy white clouds drift across the sky. Suddenly a sound rustled beside him and he turned to find a young girl sitting alongside him.
"Hello Harry," the girl murmured, tucking a strand of dirty-blonde hair behind one ear.
Harry's breath hitched in his throat. "Hello Luna," he replied, trying to keep his voice from hitting a very un-masculine note.
I've been meaning to tell you
I've got this feelin' that won't subside
I look at you and I fantasize
You're mine tonight
Now I've got you in my sights
"A new subscription of The Quibbler has just come in," Luna said. "Did you know that it has been rumored that Hogwarts is sitting atop a secret nesting ground for Chimaeras?" Her clear blue eyes probed his face seriously.
"Really?" Harry said, smiling. "What are Chimaeras anyway?"
"Greek monsters that have a lion's head, a goat's body, and a dragon's tail." She leaned in closer and stopped an inch from his ear. "My uncle was almost killed by one," she whispered, her hot breath flooding his ear. Harry shuddered.
With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I
Luna pulled back slightly; for a minute Harry feared she was about to leave him. But then Luna lay down next to Harry and gazed dreamily at the sky. Harry turned his head and watched her gently.
"You see those dots up there?" Luna asked, pointing to the tiny black pinpoints moving swiftly in the sky. "Those are harpies, bird-women; they always migrate at this time of the year."
Harry laughed. "Actually, I think those are just birds."
Luna cast him a serious look. "That's what everyone thinks, when really they are harpies, snatching innocent farmers for food. Do you know how many people The Quibbler suspects of 'disappearing'?" Harry shook his head. "Thousands," Luna muttered formidably.
I want to hold you so hear me out
I want to show you what love's all about
Darlin' tonight
Now I've got you in my sights
"Luna," Harry suddenly said, "Are you going to the dance next week?" please say no, please say no…
"No," Luna replied, "I haven't been asked." A curious expression crossed her face.
"Will you go with me?" Harry asked, gently taking her hand in his.
With these hungry eyes
One look at you and I can't disguise
I've got hungry eyes
I feel the magic between you and I
I've got hungry eyes
Now I've got you in my sights
With those hungry eyes
Now did I take you by surprise
Luna turned her head and locked her celestial eyes with his emerald-colored ones.
"I would love to," she whispered breathlessly, "but only if you help me find the secret Chimaera nesting ground, I think it's behind that statue of Hadrianus the Charming."
Harry stood up and pulled Luna to her feet.
"I wouldn't dream of doing anything else," he said, grinning down at her. Luna smiled up at him and led him off to the castle.
I need you to see
This love was meant to be
