Top Hat
Arthur was feeling good. His waist coat, an appropriate black, hugged the curves of his body. His slacks, for once ironed with the creases in the right places, followed his legs. His boots, his boots were his pride, soft leather, imported from Italy. But best of all was his black silk top hat, tall and elegant, perched on his head at an angle he had to practice supporting.
For the first time since he could remember, he actually felt good about his clothes. Which was why he practically flounced into the ball room, knowing he was the best dressed. Knowing that the man he wanted to defeat would be so surprised! The glee nearly made him giddy.
"Good evening worthless frog." Arthur greeted Francis with a well practiced bow. Francis stood speechless for a few moments, glancing him up and down. He laughed when it became apparent that Francis would say nothing. "For once. For once, bloody frog, I am more fashionable than you!"
Francis looked him over again and smiled. "Finally, petit lapin, you understand." Arthur gave him an arrogant smirk, tucking his cane under his arm.
"Do you feel bad, Frog, now that I've out done you?" He felt good, seeing Francis in a simple shirt and waist coat, his own boots lacking the same heel that Arthur's had.
But Francis just laughed. "I would feel bad, except that I've been out dressing you for years." He grinned at Arthur's sour scowl. "I'm proud of you though, petit lapin, finally stepping up."
"That's not what I want from you, bloody frog! I worked so hard to look better than you, and all you give me is 'I'm proud'?!" Arthur growled in frustration, stamping his foot. He couldn't stand that smirk, the way blue eyes laughed at him.
"What, are you trying to impress me, petit lapin?" Arthur let out another frustrated sound, turning away from Francis with a huff, his face flushing because he knew what Francis was implying. "Well?" Francis smirked, thoroughly enjoying watching Arthur squirm in embarrassment.
"Yes! I wanted you to say 'Oh England, you look so amazing, you're so well dressed'!" He huffed again, his face burning as Francis smiled at him, his arms wrapping around his waist. "You were supposed to be impressed."
Francis chuckled deeply, squeezing Arthur in an embraced. "it's all just further proof that you love me." He kissed Arthur's cheek. "And you look adorable in that top hat."
"I don't want to hear that from you. Stupid frog."
