Sloane stared out across the ocean from the ship. Corliss was almost asleep, but stayed by her mother's side. Already she was like her mother. Sloane could see the fiery tomboy she had been. But she had her father's brown seal- like eyes. Sometimes she would find the girl staring out to the sea, as often as her father did, a wistful expression on her face. "What are we doin', standin' aroun' here Momma?" asked the girl sleepily. Before Sloane could reply she let out a yawn." We're waitin' for your father." replied Sloane. The girl, wide awake now, looked around eagerly." Where, where? Is he on this ship?" Sloane laughed sadly."No, he's coming through the sea."Suddenly, she saw a figure board the ship. He was dripping wet, much like he had been when he asked to join her crew. She had thought that it was because he had almost drowned, but it wasn't until later, when she found herself looking into those eyes and finding love, that she understood.
He left, saying he would be back in seven years for his child. She didn't know he meant theirs. She and those loyal to her hid away in Jamaica, waiting for the babe.A seal pup came instead. The midwife, having been around long enough to know what to do, quickly tore the skin off and gave both bundles to Sloane. Sloane hid away the skin, waiting for seven years. He came toward them and Corliss looked frightened. Sloane noticed, and said to him "Look at you, scarin' your own daughter away!" Looking at Corliss she whispered reassuringly," That's your Da, sweetheart." Corliss looked apprehensive. He laughed at the scowling seven year old, the laugh that she fell in love with. "Don't worry, little one, I won't hurt you." Corliss said to him "Momma says you're a selkie." He looked at Sloane, a questioning look. She shrugged saying " Had to tell her the truth." He said, bending down so Corliss could face him, "I am, and you are one, too" Corliss looked at Sloane, and said "I have to go with ya don' I? That's what the stories say." He looked a bit... guilty? remorseful?" Sloane couldn't tell. "Yes, you do, but you'll see your mother again, in seven years." He looked down at Corliss then at Sloane. "I need to talk to your mother." he said. Sloane said to him, out of Corliss's hearing, "You'll watch her? And make sure no man finds her on the shore? I've heard the stories ,Noah, and I can say you'll-" He broke her off, kissing her." You'll see her again, Sloane, because you have to deal with her when she falls in love." Sloane whispered "Do you still love me?" He answered, "Why else did I come back?"
"To come for her. "
"True, but I also came for you."
Corliss came to him and said "I'm ready." she had found the skin. Tears came to Sloane's eyes as she said her goodbye.
" 'Member who your mother is if anyone asks." she said to Corliss. Corliss said " Corliss asked "But what about my Da?"
Sloane said." He'll tell you. Goodbye, my daughter. Don't forget me."
"Don' worry Momma, seven years isn't long." Sloane looked at Noah. Words weren't needed. Nothing was needed to say.
He helped her in her skin. Suddenly there were two seals on deck. Then they were gone. Sloane heard a shout. h looked over deck to hear better.
" My mother is Sloane, Lady pirate of Spain! My father is... Noah, selkie of the East!"
Sloane started crying, but pushed the tears away. Seven years isn't long, she thought. Not long at all.
In the morning, she found an abundant supply of gunpowder, food, and gold. A note said:
For you and our daughter.

You like? I was a bit inspired by tales of selkies coming back for their children. I wondered how the human parents felt. This is my first fanfic. Please R&R!
