Winry stared out the window. She was leaning on her cheek, her breath fogging the window. It was a cold and rainy evening in Resembool... but things couldn't be any better.
Edward was next to her, studying his alchemy. Oh, his alchemy! All those runic circles had no use to her, but to Edward, it was everything.
Two nights ago, they just erected his fallen house. Every thing from furniture to the little origami
figure Ed made for his mom. All this was possible because of Alchemy. But still, his home didn't have what he needed the most: a philosopher's stone. The only thing to restore him and his brother's original form. They've been searching for more than a year now, and she felt that they were one step closer to their goal. Ed never gave up. Alphonse supported his brother. That's what made them a good team.
Winry turned to face Ed. He was sleeping, again. From her sofa, what she saw was Ed sleeping on his books. Alchemical books.
Bored, she decided to wake Ed up.
'Ed? Wake up. ' she nudged him a little. Winry sighed. He's just too tired! she thought, holding his cheek. It was nice too see her childhood friend with her. The childhood friend that stuck with her, through thick and thin, eventhough he frowned, pouted, and sulked, it was just his normal facade; there was a good side to him. The one that picked her up when she was down, that looked at the brighter side of life. It was the side that Winry loved.
"Nii-san?"
Alphonse came in.
Clang, Clang! His metal feet tried to be as quiet as possible, but being metal had several downsides to it.
Winry winced. It was always like this. Finding Alphonse a bit dissapointed, she stepped in to help.
"Anything you need?" she smiled.
"No thanks, just checking Nii-san. Anything YOU need Winry?" Al was smiling. Though no one could see it, they could feel it.
"No thank you, Al.
"Then I'll leave you and nii-san at peace." With that, Al shut the door quietly behind them.
Winry got down from the sofa and ran her fingers through Ed's hair. Even in sleep, Ed looked troubled. I wonder what Ed is dreaming about? She pondered.
"...Just say yes Winry... Nii-chan... We got our...original bodies back... Thank you... Winry... Don't go!" Sleep talking?
Probably he wasn't so tired after all. But what scared her was the fact that the last sentence ended quite loud. Was that just her imagination, or did Ed sound frightened?
She never found out though.
"Winry! Nii-San! Get up! There's something in here!"
"What! Alphonse! what's the problem!" cried Winry.
"Huh? What?" Looks like Ed woke up. He dragged the back of his hands over his eyes. Don't have a clue of what's happening huh? Well― but Winry didn't get to finish the thought.
She saw it slither.
Ed looked shocked, but as Winry looked into his golden eyes, she saw a hint of recognition. Did Ed encounter this thing somewhere before?
Suddenly, she felt herself thrown to the floor.
"Winry! Get out! Get as far as possible, and don't come back in unless I say so!" Ed's eyes were firing up. They were determined. What was this strange being? What was the connection between it and the Elrics? What ever it was, she wanted to see what will happen. She wanted to stay back.
She wanted to fight.
"No! I won't go out! I won't get left out again!"
But Ed already rushed out, giving Winry a sure answer that she'd have to find things out by herself.
