Felt like rebooting this. Don't know why. Just felt like it. Don't question it. Even I sometimes confuse myself...

Takes place a while after the end of Adventure 01. Under a year approximately, regarding the Japanese School system.

Meteor Shower

Digimon © Toei Animation
Megaman Series © Capcom

A Digidestined's job isn't finished after they're done. That I know for a fact. And by that, I mean I just found out that the prophesy has been changing. I don't know if this is a part of the prophesy that I overlooked, or there's something rewriting the Digital World from within. If so, then that would be very bad. I have never seen anything like this. I have never seen someone deliberately rewriting the Digital World's coding, or worse, attack it directly. So far, I don't think any Digimon are being deleted yet, however I imagine this changing soon if this unknown force should learn the Digimons' coding. The prophesy however showed me a brief image of a Digidestined's crest. Specifically, the Crest of Light. It would seem that the eighth Digidestined must be called upon to return to the Digital World.

Oh poor Kari. She's new to the group, and yet she must return. Thankfully the access to the Digital World is open again, so all that Kari has to do is return here. Hopefully her friends will be with her. The world's destruction may be upon us soon enough. From this sign, I fear the prophesy predicts the world's destruction upon the eve of the meteor shower.

A new school year has begun. The Elementary School kids were mixed about the new year. Some were excited, and others hated it. The third-grade class were all talking amongst themselves while their teacher was doing something first. The school has gotten a new computer system, and the faculty has a hard time adjusting to this new technology. Apparently, it's a new type of technology sent out by the school district. The district had just approved of this technology recently, after the manufacturer allegedly showed them at a surprise presentation.

Nonetheless, the new technology is "wowing" everyone at the school, and the kids are eager to see it in action.

"Okay kids, I know you're interested to see this new computer, but you have to be patient." The class teacher said. "I don't really know how to work this thing, and I'm sure the other teachers don't know how to work these things as well…"

"Aww…"

While they were all talking amongst themselves, a girl in a yellow shirt was looking out the window, looking a little bit sad about something. Her mind was somewhere else. She even looked a little bit stressed about something.

"Hey, Kari." One girl nudged the girl with a yellow shirt next to her, snapping her out of it. She was paying attention, now. "Doesn't your friend know how to work these things?"

"Oh, uh I think so." The girl said. "I don't know how he knows that much about computers. I only just met my big brother's friends a while ago."

"Didn't you meet them last summer?"

"No. I was sick when they went to summer camp. Remember?"

"You planning to go this year?"

"I mean, I don't want to stay home all summer, while they get to do fun stuff. Though, I didn't really want to catch a cold, so I guess I was lucky last year."

"Okay class." The teacher said. "I think I got this computer to work now. I'll now…well, TRY to take attendance."

"Hey, by the way Kari." The girl whispered. "Have you heard that there's going to be a meteor shower soon?"

"A meteor shower?" Kari said.

"Yeah. It's going to be tonight."

"Ooh. I think I'm going to watch it tonight."

"Yeah, and lots of people are going to be watching it in that big lot where that big monster attacked last year."

"I think I got a good view of it from my apartment."

"Oh okay. But if you want a good view, call me, and we'll go out to that spot, okay?"

The girl nods, and they went back to paying attention to class.

After school…

The young girl, Kari, as well as her goggle wearing older brother, Tai, then were walking through the streets to get back to their apartment home. However, along the way, they see many advertisements about the new hot technology that's hitting the shelves this week. It would seem this is the same manufacturer that's providing the same advanced technology to the school. It is quite interesting that there's a sudden technology boom during 2000. And during the period where the 2K bug was still prominent.

This company seemed to be under the alias of the Shiguma Organization. They have provided Japan numerous of technological advances to this day, starting with Odaiba. It's really showing, as new pricy, yet affordable devices known as DigiTrans – Or D-Trans – started appearing. Basically, these are small screen computer devices that are designed to be a part of man's everyday life. (These can be comparable to today's touch devices, like iPhones and Androids) They can come in the kid XS size, a standard size (Advertised as one size fits all), and the adult XL size. These devices not only are useful, and advanced, but these are also waterproof, flexible, and also comes with a wrist attachment, named Near Field Communication Device – or NFCD - that can be programmed to provide support for certain applications. Specifically, the hot new game for kids, teens, and young adults alike, Card Trans. A player would get a battle card starter set, which has up to 30 cards. Players would scan the cards on the NFCD, and their in-game character in the D-Trans would respond with the action that's on the card. The square shaped NFCD is actually big enough to hold the D-Trans, and the battle card. It also acts like a dock for charging. Though for holding purposes, each kit comes with a holster that would clip onto the user's pants, shorts, etc. The D-Trans would leave enough space between it and the NFCD to insert and scan Battle Cards for convenience purposes. The Card Trans game is won when the other player loses all their HP. It's starting to become a popular thing on the market today, as card packs are being shoved off the shelf. In fact, the battle cards are coming in packed with the D-Trans, considering kids love them so much.

The NFCD could also hook up to a TV or monitor, and display the screen there. This is their way of "Switching" it up. There are also two smaller controllers that can come with it, but it requires a separate purchase.

"Man. That D-Trans thing looks so cool." Tai said. "Wish we can get one for the both of us."

"Didn't dad said his boss was going to get us one?" Kari said.

"No. I think he said it's only for him and mom. We need to get one on our own."

"But they cost so much…"

"Yeah. I hear Matt's gonna get one soon."

"Lucky."

The two continues on through the gathering crowd, and tries to get back home.

As they were walking, they hear an enthusiastic man with a ponytail gathering attention towards him. It looks like he was a store representative. He was saying something about the D-Trans, which the two kids listened in.

"Come one, come all! Win a D-Trans free of charge in this drawing! No purchase is necessary. Try your luck here!"

"Hey, he's giving a D-Trans for free!" Kari exclaimed.

"Yeah, but, who knows if we'll win it…" Tai said, scratching his head. "Let's not bother, and…" He then realized that Kari wasn't with him. "Huh!?...Aw geez…"

The young girl already pushed through the crowds, and got up to the clerk.

"I wanna try!" Kari exclaimed.

"Excellent! We were just about to close." The clerk said. "What's your name?"

"Kari Kamiya."

The man wrote it down, and placed it in a large container, which is filled with a bunch more slips. More people then began putting their slips in the container.

"Aaaaand, time's up!" The clerk announced. "Time for the drawing."

A few minutes later, everyone was gathered up. There was around a hundred contestants in around the place, which was good. Otherwise the entire city would be surrounding this place.

"I still don't think we'll be able to win this, but oh well." Tai said.

"Oh come on, Tai." Kari said. "Who knows? We may win."

The large container starts violently shaking, as it's shuffling the slips in there. It's making sure there are no definite winners. After a while, a slip came out of a small slot in the container. Everyone was waiting in suspense.

"And, the winner is…" The clerk said. "…Well what do you know? Ms. Kari Kamiya!"

The two kids were shocked afterwards, with Tai being the most shocked.

"I won!?" The girl exclaimed. "Yay!"

"She actually won the thing…" Tai said, still shocked. The girl enthusiastically rushed towards the clerk, as he gave her the special normal sized D-Trans kit, with the battle cards included. There's even a ribbon attached to it, with a note saying "CONGRATULATIONS!" The crowd was clapping for her, showing good manners, even though deep down they wanted the new device.

"See, Tai?" Kari said, walking to her older brother. "You just have to be positive."

"Er, yeah…Guess so." Tai said, still pretty shocked.

"Here."

"Huh?"

"What? Don't you want it?"

"What? No, Kari. You won it fair and square. You deserve it. I mean, I would like to have this, but, nah. You can have it, sis."

"You sure?"

"I'm sure. Now let's get back home, and tell mom."

"Okay!"

The two kids took off to their home finally.

"Stay safe, kids!" The clerk said, waving to them. "…You'll need it…"

Back at their apartment.

"We're home!" The two kids announced, as they walked in.

"Mommy! Mommy! Look at this!" Kari exclaimed, rushing to their mom in the kitchen.

"What? What is it?...Huh!?" Their mother was certainly surprised with the award Kari won.

"Heh heh. She won that just a few minutes ago." Tai said.

"Yeah! I'm pretty lucky, huh?" Kari said.

"That's, really wonderful Kari, but I still don't understand." Their mom said. "Did you really win this in a contest? These things are expensive."

"Yeah. Of course."

"Okay." The mom then starts to take a good look at the package. "Well, it doesn't look like it's fake."

"Fake?"

"It's common to find fake D-Trans out there, but yours look real enough."

"Why would someone want to do that?"

"Well, sometimes people create these fakes to fool customers, and make money off of them."

"But this one was free."

"Yeah, what are the odds that this is a fake?" Tai said.

"Okay." Their Mom said. "I trust you two. If this thing is a real D-Trans, then it's great. Besides, we were going to get you two a D-Trans in a few days."

"Really!? Wow. That's great! One less you have to worry about, huh?"

"I'm gonna go open this!" Kari then ran into their room.

"Sheesh. She's really excited for the thing." Tai said.

Going on her bed, Kari started to unbox the new device. Once she was through the dozens of packaging paper, she finally unwrapped the D-Trans. The color of the case was Pink, and the screen greeted her when turned on. The Battle Cards and NFCD were also unwrapped, and she stuck the NFCD on her arm. It fits snuggly, and the plastic grip didn't really scratch or hurt.

Just as the girl was going to start tinkering with the device after setting it up, she sees that it needs a firmware update.

"Aww…" She was disappointed, and left it on her bed, before going back into the living room.

She then sees Tai getting ready for something.

"Where are you going, Tai?"

"Matt said he got his D-Trans all set up. He told me that he had to wait for this insanely long update thing. I don't know. Is yours working?"

"No. Gotta update."

"Yeah. Thought so. I'll be back."

"Wait, where did mom go?"

"She said that she needed to do some grocery shopping for dinner tonight. Which would be pretty hard considering there's literally crowds all around here."

"There's D-Trans at the super market?"

"No, but don't tell anyone that. Mom already has enough trouble trying to go through the streets."

"Oh, okay."

"Anyway, I'll be back before dark…Or at least, try to."

"Okay. See ya!...Oh! You'll be back for the meteor shower, right?"

"Oh, that's right. Don't worry, Kari. I'll watch it with you tonight. I promise."

"Okay. See ya."

Tai puts on his shoes, and left the apartment, as he attempts to go through the busy streets, leaving Kari to hold down the fort.

Later, when dusk came along, Kari was still waiting for her D-Trans to finish updating. It really is an excruciating long update time. She was sitting, watching the news channel, as they talk about the big headlines.

[D-Trans are flying off the shelf. Customers try to get their hands on one before they are sold out for the night. More will be coming, but only at a later date says the president of Shiguma Co. In related news, the Shiguma Corporation has successfully purged Japan's computer network of the infamous 2K bug. The bug had happened when computer systems advanced to the year 2000, and was affecting computer systems worldwide. That was before the Shiguma Corporation stepped in, and purged the system from the bug. In the process, providing Odaiba with some of the most advanced technology we have seen as of this millennium. As the technology is such a big hit in Odaiba, Shiguma Co. has plans to expand their business plans to more parts of Japan, and has plans to continue business in other countries, such as the United States, China, United Kingdom and more. Now in other news, the meteor shower is expected to come tonight, bringing a sight to behold for all of Japan. It's a good thing that the government had decided to remodel a few buildings in Odaiba, considering that many people will be able to watch from the huge empty lot. Many people, including myself, claimed the cause of it was due to a giant monster, but the Japan government has denied such a claim. Personally, I call shenanigans to that.]

Kari and the others know very well what had happened a year ago, and she seemed to be lost in thought about that. It's probably why she seemed sad and stressed about it today in class. Digital Monsters known as Digimon invaded the real world from their home in the Digital World, and it was up to the Digidestined to save humanity from the crisis. After saving both dimensions last year, the Digidestined were separated from their partners in the Digital World, and had to return to their home, otherwise they'd be stuck in there forever.

Being separated likely saddened Kari, and not to mention, the stress she had to endure while in the Digital World, trying to save the world put a strain onto her. It was kind of sudden that she was to be called upon to help save two world, among 7 other kids, who have WAY more experience with Digimon than her.

In any case, Kari gave her partner her lucky whistle before she left. It was a memento to help remember her by, but even they know that they will always remember each other. Everyone did. Both the Digidestined and the Digimon know that they would find a way to reach each other again…

…And that time was approaching.

As the girl was walking to her bedroom to check on the progress of the update, the computer screen in the living room came on. It was when the girl came back with the D-Trans, is that she noticed the computer monitor.

"Huh?" She checks the screen, but it was all static. "What's going on?"

Suddenly, something in her pants was beeping. It was something she hadn't heard of in a long time. Probably a year. It was her Digivice. It hadn't gone off after they all saved the world last year, and it was the first time they have heard it in such a while.

"My Digivice? Why is it…"

Considering Kari hasn't joined the Digidestined until WAY later, and her Digimon lost her memory of being part of the heroes, she still sort of knew what to do here. She may be a couple years younger than Tai, and naive at times, but she has shown to be pretty smart in certain situations. She held the Digivice to the screen, to see what would happen, and a portal opened up on it. She looked at it with awe, and puts her hand through it. She then wanted to see inside it, so she climbed onto the counter, and puts her body through it. Though she lost her balance, and she eventually fell through the entire screen, screaming. It was a good thing no one was in the house, though.

Opening her eyes, she sees that she was in a forest. The sun was setting, and it's red and orange lights was shining on the tops of the trees. She knew that she was in the Digital World now.

"I'm back in the Digital World? How?"

"Kari!" A voice called, and Kari turned to look who it was.

"Huh?"

The voice was her feline friend and partner, whom she hasn't seen since a year ago. They both longed to reach each other again, ever since they have been separated.

"Gatomon!" Kari went up, and happily grabbed her, and hugged her. "I missed you…"

"I missed you too Kari." Afterwards, she puts her partner down. "How did you get back in here, Kari?"

"I dunno. My computer screen glowed, and I just used by Digivice to get back in here."

"Really? Why did the Digiport open again?"

"I think I can answer that." Another voice said. A Digimon, that looks like a centaur, with a metal helmet walked up to them, four legs an all.

"Centarumon?"

"We don't have much time. I must get you to the temple."

"The temple?" Kari said, unfamiliar to any temples.

"What for?" Gatomon said, knowing what he's talking about. "Why her only? What about the others?"

"We can't wait for them. You must come with me." Centarumon said.

"Um…Okay?" Kari said.

"Can't you at least tell us?" Gatomon said. "I've been left out of the kitty box more than enough times already."

"I will explain, once I get you both to the sacred temple. Now, get on." Centarumon said, offering a ride for the two. The two look at each other, confused, before getting onto the Digimon. They all then rode off towards the sacred temple, where the prophesy of the Digidestined lies.

On the way, Gatomon notices the new D-Trans on Kari's wrist.

"Hey Kari. What's that on your wrist?" Gatomon said. "It sure doesn't look like your Digivice."

"Oh, this? It's something called a D-Trans." Kari replied. "I won it today. It's so cool! Having it makes me feel like I'm in the future."

"Really?"

"Yeah! In fact, a bunch of stuff in my world looks like something out of the future. This corporation made all these cool things."

"That really sounds interesting. I bet the others would love to come see it. I know I do."

"Yeah."

They eventually all reached the sacred temple, and went inside.

In there, they see a huge emblem of the emblem of light appeared over the glyphs.

"The emblem of Light?" Gatomon said.

"Yes." Centarumon said.

"Why is my emblem here?" Kari said.

"We don't know yet. But one thing for sure is a great disaster is set for the Digital World."

"A disaster?" Gatomon said.

"Yes. The disaster will spell this world's destruction."

"Destruction!?"

"Why?" Kari said. "I thought we beat Apocalymon."

"You did. However, I think this may be a new force at work." Centarumon said.

"Who?"

"We do not know yet. But the disaster date is set on the eve of a meteor fall."

"A meteor fall?" Gatomon said.

"Ah! The meteor shower!" Kari exclaimed.

"A meteor shower?"

"Yeah! It's tonight!"

"But? The Digital World? Destroyed in one night? That's insane."

"I know."

"You must gather the other Digimon, and flee from this world." Centarumon said. "There is not much time left."

"I don't even know where they are." Gatomon said.

"Gather them all up, and flee. The Digital World is lost…"

"Whoa! Why are you giving up, cowboy?"

"We're not gonna give up!" Kari exclaimed. "We'll save the Digital World."

"That is very considerate of you, Digidestined, but I fear this is something even you cannot do." Centarumon said. "Now, flee, before this world takes you!"

"What about you? We can't just leave you."

"I must stay, and guard this ancient temple. It's my destiny."

"Can't you rewrite that destiny a little?"

"I cannot. I am sorry. Please. You must go, or else I will force my blade, and make you leave!"

The two were set back by this, but they see they have no choice. They then start taking off, out of the temple, while Centarumon sits, and awaits the disaster.

"May you stay safe, Digidestined…" Centarumon said.

The two then ran out of the temple, and sees that nightfall has come. They see a meteor shower covering the dark sky.

"There's a Meteor Shower here?" Kari said.

"Must be reflecting the real world." Gatomon said. "Anyway, this is bad. We need to get out of here, fast."

"Wait, we need to find Agumon and the others."

"Okay, but we need to make it quick."

Kari nods, before seeing something from afar. One of the shooting stars went off course, from the looks, and crashed onto the land, miles away. Soon, more meteors start crashing onto the ground, creating large craters. The two gasps upon the looks.

"The meteors are crashing onto the ground!"

"Is this the disaster?" Kari said.

"Rgh, okay, scratch that! I need to get you home, now!"

"What?! What about you?"

"Don't worry about me. You need to stay safe. I already failed as a Digimon, by not protecting you through and through last year, and I'm not going to let it happen again."

"But, you're my friend. I don't wanna lose you too…"

"I know…But Wizardmon would have wanted this anyway…"

"And he wants you to live as well…"

"I know, but you're my top priority."

"But…"

"No buts…" Gatomon then took out something familiar to Kari. It was the whistle that Kari had given to Gatomon before leaving. "I will always remember you as a friend."

"…Gatomon…" Kari said, on the verge of tears.

"Now go, before– "

"You two aren't going anywhere!" A voice exclaimed.

"Huh? Who's there!?"

A meteor from the sky then sets its trajectory towards the two, and begins falling towards them. Kari was the first to see it, and sees that it was aiming at Gatomon.

"Gatomon! Look out!" She yelled, as she ran forward, and covered her partner. They both see the meteor falling towards them, and scream, before the meteor falls right onto them. Their screams immediately ended right on impact.

"Pitiful Human. You stand no chance against us. May you rest in data."

The presence of the voice has left the area.

The meteors continue to fall, and crash against the land, destroying much of the Digital World. However, the meteor that had crashed onto the Digidestined and Digimon started glowing. It then started transforming into small particles, and eventually, the entire meteor was turned into small data particles, floating above the large crater it made, revealing Kari and Gatomon, badly injured. Kari was knocked out, while Gatomon was struggling to get up. She was in a critical condition. Particles of her were slowly disappearing. She was being deleted. It was starting from her feet, and flowing upwards to her legs.

"G…Gotta…get…Kari home…" Gatomon groaned, while trying to crawl to Kari. She was going to use the last of her strength to ensure that her friend makes it home alive. She doesn't care that she would be deleted here. Kari's survival was her top priority. When she touched Kari's left arm, a figure walks up to them. Gatomon looks up, weakly, and seems to recognize whoever it was. "Y…You?…How…" Gatomon then used the last of her strength, and passed out, and started being rapidly deleted.

"You two have a large destiny you must fulfill." The figure said. He then turned on the D-Trans on Kari's arm, and activated some sort of hidden feature of this D-Trans. It shone a bright light, and the small data particles that had come out of the meteor was being downloaded into the D-Trans. Also, the deleted data from Gatomon was starting to be recovered, and was being downloaded into the D-Trans, as well as what's left of Gatomon.

"And now the final piece of this puzzle." The figure said, taking Kari's Digivice out of her pocket. He crunched it in his hand, and only left the data chip of the Digivice intact. He then detached the D-Trans off of Kari's wrist, and inserted the chip in a secret compartment of the D-Trans. "This will be your new Digivice. This modified D-Trans was for this purpose. You and the other Digidestined are our last hope." The figure then reattached the D-Trans back onto the NFCD. A portal then appeared in the sky, and Kari starts floating upwards towards it. "Save our worlds, Digidestined…" Kari then disappears into the portal, as it closes, as more meteors rain onto the lands, effectively destroying everything; destroying the Digital World.

"…ri…kari…" A voice was echoing in her mind. "Hey! Kari!"

Kari wakes up on the couch, with her older brother looking over her.

"Hey. You awake?"

"Ngh…Tai?" She said, coming to her senses. She then starts to recall a few things. She entered the Digital World, reunited with Gatomon, heard the new prophesy that the Digital World was to be destroyed, and remembered the meteor falling upon her and Gatomon. "Ah! Gatomon!" She shot straight up, and starts looking around. "Gatomon! Where are you!?"

"Gatomon?"

"S-She was with me, and…"

"Really?"

"Yeah! I got into the Digital World, and everything was falling apart! And a meteor fell onto me and Gatomon, and…"

"Whoa, Kari, calm down." Tai then knelt down and held his sister's shoulders. "I think you just had a nasty nightmare."

"B-But, Gatomon gave me back my whistle! Look!" Kari then began to search her pockets for her whistle, however, she couldn't find it anywhere. "What?...B-But she…"

"Kari, I think you were dreaming." Tai said. "Besides, the Digiport hasn't been open in a while. There's no way you could have gotten into the Digital World. Not to mention, I don't think you would even be here if a meteor crushed you."

"Mmm…I guess…"

"Anyway, look! The meteor shower is starting!"

"Huh? Oh yeah! That's right!"

Kari then ran towards the sliding doors, and slid it open, and ran outside. She then looked up to the sky, and sees the meteor shower happening. She watches it in awe.

"It's nice huh? It's not every day that you see a meteor shower."

"Yeah."

They continue to watch the meteor shower, as hundreds of more across Odaiba does so as well. Though with Kari, because of that meteor dream(?), she was a bit paranoid of a meteor falling onto her again. Not to mention, she was worried that the real world would suffer the same fate as the Digital World did in the dream(?). But so far so good. Nothing really is going to harm the planet in anyway. Then while thinking about the dream, she thinks back to the Digimon.

"…Say Tai?"

"Hm?"

"Do you think we'll ever see the Digimon again?"

"I'm sure we will Kari. After all, a Digidestined's job is never done…well at least how I put it."

"A Digidestined's job is never done…" Kari repeated. "…Okay."

"We'll be reunited with everyone, and I'm sure Gatomon would really love to hear you whistle your…whistle again."

"Hee hee. Yeah."

"Tai, Kari! I'm home!" Their mother called. "I picked up dinner for all of us!"

"Let's go." Tai said.

"Yeah…" Kari said. They both ran back into the apartment, and started attacking dinner.

Later that night, when the two were put to bed, Kari's D-Trans turned on with a slight hum, and showed text on the small screen, along with a progress bar. Though it didn't wake the two up. One by one the text said:
