I originally wrote this as a Harry Styles fanfiction... but since there isn't a 'One Direction' thingy-mabobber, I decided that I'll make it for Austin & Ally :) WARNING: This is a really sad one shot!

The One That Got Away

Summer after high school, when we first met
We make-out in your Mustang to Radiohead
And on my eighteenth birthday, we got matching tattoos.

Ally strokes her wrist, where two A's are entwined and wrapped in vines and a white rose. One A stands for Ally, the other stands for Austin.

Used to steal your parents liquor and climb to the roof
Talk about our future like we had a clue
Never planned that one day I'd be losing you.

They often spoke of what they wanted to do in the future. It was never separate, they made joint decisions. They wanted to see the world, experience culture, live life. They would never get the chance now.

In another life, I would be your girl
We keep all our promises, be us against the world
In another life, I would make you stay
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away
The one that got away.

Tears prick Ally's captivating brown eyes and her throat tightens. Her already aching chest burns even more. She blames herself for Austin's death. If only she hadn't have him stopped the car because of her yearning to kiss her lovely boyfriend, then the truck never would have hit them, and Austin never would have been gone.

I was June and you were my Johnny Cash
Never one without the other, we made a pact
Sometimes when I miss you, I put those records on.

She finally lets the tears fall. They burn their way down her cheeks, marking her guilt and her pain. It should have been her that got away, not Austin.

Someone said you had your tattoo removed
Saw you downtown, singing the blues
It's time to face the music, I'm no longer your muse.

Sometimes Ally gets angry at the world. Why did it have to be Austin? Why did they have to take her Austin? She's angry now. She jumps up, grabs the TV remote and hurls it at the wall. The plaster breaks and falls, like Ally's heart.

The one, the one, the one
The one that got away...
All this money can't buy me a time machine, no
Can't replace you with a million rings, no
I should of told you what you meant to me
Cause now I pay the price.

She falls now, onto the floor, sobbing in great bursts, trying to let the air out. She will never breathe properly again. No matter how much she wants to take that night back, she can't. It doesn't stop her from wishing.

The one (the one).

Ally has nothing left to live for now, not even her and Austins two other friends. They are both hurting, too, but Ally can't be with them. She can't stand to be near anyone anymore. It's been six months, and she hasn't moved on. She knows she never will.

The one (the one)
The one (the one).

Ally drags herself back to the couch. She places a note on the coffee table and picks up something. "I love you, Austin," she manages as the tears continue to fall. "See you soon, babe."

In another life, I would make you stay
So I don't have to say you were the one that got away.

The only thing that can be heard next is a gunshot. And then silence...

The one that got away.

Yeah, I told you it was pretty sad. Should I keep writing one-shots or should I just stop here? The song here is 'The One That Got Away' by Katy Perry. I don't own the song/lyrics nor do I own any of the characters or the show Austin & Ally. All rights go to the rightful owners! Also, don't forget to #Review!
