Tales in a Kifu
1: Shougi with the Kids
He'd never had time for anyone except himself
and his mother: that dear woman that deserved
so much better
So it was strange to find himself teaching kids:
kids who couldn't be detached
like adults were – he couldn't help
but become attached to them
And then his mother was gone
and he shougi player he'd been
– that woman shougi player
gone as well.
He couldn't see them again
as he'd been.
And if he returned as himself,
as a man,
would it be the same?
But, for them, maybe
he could start over again.
