My office is at the top of a skyscraper, right on the edge of Tokyo Bay. The view from here is truly awe-inspiring: on one side, hundreds of lights cut through the slowly encroaching darkness of the evening; while on the other, the bay stretches as far as the eye can see. It's eight o'clock pm. The city outside is waiting with bated breath for the launch tomorrow.

"Mr. Akihiko, sir?" I turned around. Speaking to me from just within the doorway was Tetsuya Ishimoto, a senior programmer at Argus. This project would likely be our last, so we had to go all out. If this fails, our company goes under.

"What is it, Tetsuya?"

"The preparations for tomorrow's launch are all finished."

"Ah, excellent. Tell anyone still left that they can go home. I'm going to stay for a while." Tetsuya looked at me quizzically.

"Are you sure? The guys downstairs have been planning a night of drinking before the launch for weeks. Don't you want to come?" I turned away.

"Honestly, I'm fine. You guys have a good night though." He sighed.

"Well, if you're really sure..." I could feel his eyes baring into the back of my head. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally left the room. "Don't stay up too late!" He called back after me.

It is getting darker by the second now. The water of the bay looks cold and uninviting, like it was trying to swallow the land. I checked my watch: nine thirty, the agreed upon time. I opened up my laptop and there she was - already waiting for me. The one for who all this is for.

"I trust you've made the preparations?" She's dealt away even with greetings. Permanently straight to the point with me. I like that about her.

"Of course. The rest of the team has no idea though. They weren't as keen as I am to help you realise your ambitions."

"This is... disappointing," she sighed. "But I suppose it can't be helped. They'll be disposed of anyway soon enough. I have no more need for them." A wry smile spread across her youthful face. "Thank you, Kayaba Akihiko. Thanks to you, the world is one step closer to being perfect." My heart jumped. This was the first time she had ever told me that I had done a good job.

"Th-thank you, Miss-"

"Don't get all sappy." She cut me off bitterly. "Just make sure the launch goes off without hitches, or the next punishment I deal will be yours." One of her punishments? No, I won't allow that to happen.

"Don't worry, nothing will go wrong. We're prepared for every contingency."

"Good. Now, if there's nothing more, I have business to attend to at that elitist academy." And just like that, my screen turned dark again. I closed my laptop and let out a long, deep breath.

This is it. My chance to prove to her that I am worthy of being in her organisation. But, wait, why should I be left out of this feast of despair? I want to be in the thick of the action.

It is decided - I will enter the game myself and become its final boss. Since I am a system administrator, I can constantly alter my own stats. None shall come past me.

I promise, I will not let you down.

This will be my final act to induce despair upon the world.

It is all for you, Miss Enoshima...
