Disclaimer: I don't own Artemis Fowl. As if you didn't know that already.
A/N: This takes place during the first book after Cudgeon releases a troll in Fowl Manor.
Briar Cudgeon gritted his teeth. Nothing was working against this Artemis kid. The Fairy Council was surely going to get rid of him soon if he couldn't think up of something.
Just then, an idea hit him. He got up; he would need Foaly's help for this. He contacted Foaly, telling him he needed to get into Fowl manor, regardless of the consequences, and told Foaly to disable the security system.
Artemis Fowl woke up. Not that he had been really sleeping. Not after that troll attack. Not when he knew that there was a huge organization of fairies living underground trying to get rid of him.
The reason he woke up, however, was because he had just heard something. Artemis turned on the light in his room. He almost gasped, but then again, Artemis wasn't the type to gasp. There were two fairies in his room. One was Holly Short, who he had kidnapped, but he had no idea who the other one was.
"Checkmate Artemis," the other fairy said, who was actually Briar Cudgeon. Artemis guessed what this was about and said,
"I would not consider this a checkmate. After all, you have lost your magic by entering a human dwelling without being invited. I suppose you made your way in through the hole that Mulch had made. Even if you considered your magic a small price to pay for defeating me, I believe you have forgotten that you are in a human home with several humans, including Butler, who could probably defeat you with ease."
"That's where you're wrong boy," Cudgeon said. "Butler can't do anything to counter what I've done. I've taken the help of the only force in the universe which can stop you." As if on cue, someone stepped into the room. It was Angeline Fowl, Artemis' mother. And she did not look pleased at all.
"Young man, what is this that I hear you've been doing? Kidnapping, blackmail? That's it, no more spearheading your criminal business, back to studies with you," she said angrily.
Artemis' jaw dropped. For the first time, he was completely bewildered. "You told my mother what I was doing?"
"Rather simple," Cudgeon said. "I broke in, cured your mother, told her everything, and then went on to free Holly." Artemis still couldn't believe that he had been defeated.
Cudgeon and Holly left. Cudgeon had a wide grin on his face; he could send some LEP officers tomorrow to mind-wipe Artemis' mother and the rest of the Fowl family. He had single-handedly defeated Artemis Fowl, criminal mastermind. Not bad for a day's worth of work.
