Title: What Goes Around, Comes Around

Summary: Though a dream, James Potter, gets a taste of his own medicine.

Set in the Marauders' 5th year at Hogwarts, after the Snape's Worst Memory chapter in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

James Potter was having a great day so far. He completed all of his O.W.L exams for the day without being nervous; he flirted with the girl of his dreams, Lily Evans (after being threatened by said girl) and he pranked Severus Snape so badly that most of Hogwarts saw and laughed at the boy's underpants!

After letting the slimy Slytherin finally go James laughed with his friend Sirius Black about the prank in their dorm room in Gryffindor Tower. "That was genius Prongs!" Sirius Black exclaimed.

"Thanks Padfoot." James said with a smile then it fell "I can't believe Snape would call Lily that awful name."

"I can't believe you would actually pull that off Prongs, how would you like it if that happened to you." Remus Lupin said with a serious look on his face, walking into the dorm with Peter Pettigrew behind him.

"Oh please that Snape deserved it! Always having his hooked nose in a book and never washing his hair. Besides everyone deserved a laugh after all of those exams Moony don't be a party pooper." Sirius said with a pout.

Remus rolled his eyes as he got into his bed. Before closing the curtains however, he looked at James with that serious look on his face, "What goes around comes around James, think about that the next time you decide to prank Severus Snape."Before James could respond Remus closed the curtains, making the room silent.

"Wow that was creepy." Sirius said after a few moments of silence looking from James to Peter and back again. "Hey Moony did I ever tell you that you should have been in Ravenclaw." There was a muffled response that caused the whole dorm room to laugh.

After the laughter died down everyone, besides Remus who was already asleep, got into bed. The last thing James had on his mind before sleep took over was what Remus said about not pranking Snape. 'What goes around comes around James; think about that the next time you decide to prank Severus Snape.'

The Dream

James was outside, sitting against the oak tree by the Black Lake. He was reading (yes reading) a book, Quidditch Though the Ages. His friends Sirius and Peter were throwing rocks into the lake, trying and failing, to get the Giant Squid to come to the shore. Remus was in the Hospital Wing because of his furry little problem.

"Here Squidy squid, come out to play with Padfoot and Wormtail!" Sirius called, urging the Squid to come, and failing.

"Um Padfoot, I don't think this is working. What we're doing might just make the Giant Squid angry." Peter said, looking worried.

"Oh come on Wormtail, nothing is going to happen don't be such a worry wart!" Peter just shook his head as Sirius continued to throw rocks into the lake, trying to get the Giant Squid to the surface.

James watched his friends goof off by the shore for a few moments then returned to his book, not knowing what was going to happen next….

All of the sudden, out of nowhere James was levitated upside down, hanging by his ankles. The book he was reading fell to the ground face up. James, at first was shocked to say the least. 'Who in their right mind would do this to me, me the handsome, charming, and famous Quidditch player James Potter?' James thought with disgust. Then his question was answered when he noticed a pair of legs and looked down (remember he's upside down at the moment) to find the sneering face of Severus Snape….

James screamed in anger. "Snape what are you doing, let me down right now!" Snape sneered at him in response.

Then Snape raised James up until they were face to face. "I don't think so Potter. Think of this as payback for today. What goes around comes around." As Severus said this Sirius and Peter came toward the pair. James saw them and tried to get their attention but they ignored him.

What goes around comes around… That is what Remus said before James went to sleep.

What goes around comes around… Suddenly James saw a lot of students gathered around them (Snape and James). He even saw Lily Evans with her friends.

"Hey Evans, help me!" Lily didn't seem to hear him. Instead she stood beside Snape while said boy wrapped his arm around her shoulders.

James stared at the pair in horror. 'This can't be happening Evans is supposed to be mine!'

Then James saw his friends Remus (this is when Remus made his appearance), Sirius and Peter standing beside Snape and Evans. Sirius was pointing and laughing at him childishly, Peter was snickering and Remus was calmly looking at him, not showing any emotion on his face.

James screamed for them to help him. Tried to talk to them to attack Snape so that he could be free but all of the was left on deaf ears as Snape yelled, to get everyone's attention, "Let's see what should be do with you Potter." He then turned to Sirius, Peter, Remus and Lily. "Any suggestions?"

Sirius started jumping up and down with his hand in the air, like a child who had one too many sweets. "Yes Black, what do you suggest?" Snape asked, patiently.

"We can throw him in the lake to see if the Giant Squid makes an appearance."

"Why do you want to see the squid?" Lily asked, looking at Sirius like he has lost his mind.

"So I can shake its tentacles'." Sirius said a matter of factly. Which is very out of character for Sirius, James stared at his best friend like he has never seen him (Sirius) before.

James saw Snape ponder this for a moment, as if he's actually thinking of throwing James into the lake. "That's a good suggestion." Snape said, looking at Sirius, "Does anyone else have a suggestion?"

"I think it would be a great opportunity to make Potter know how you felt when he pranked you Sev." Lily said softly, and then looked at James with disgust, "Let him know the meaning of the word empathy." When Lily said this, everyone who knew the meaning of the word laughed (that included Remus, Severus and Peter). Sirius turned to Lily confused but his attention turned back to James, still upside down.

"Wonderful idea Lily," Severus said with a smirk. At this point James tried to get free. He yelled to his friends to make 'Snivellus' let him go. But they all ignore him as Snape, sneering as always telling everyone within ear shot that James Potter was going to get what was coming to him.

"No! Moony, Padfoot, Wormtail please help! Don't listen to Snape!" James yelled as his trousers were lifted off of his waist, showing everyone his underpants. Everyone was laughing at him, even Sirius, Remus and Peter. The person who was laughing the hardest was Lily Evans.

James felt embarrassed, betrayed, hurt and angry. He was screaming at everyone again but mostly to his friends. "Remus, Sirius, Peter please… help!"

"We can't help you James." Remus said calmly. "What goes around comes around."

End of Dream

James woke up with a start. Sweat covering his whole body. He looked around and saw that he was in his dorm, in his bed with the curtains pulled back. He noticed Sirius standing by his bed, looking pale and worried.

"You alright Prongs? You were screaming in your sleep… bad dream huh?" James nodded, feeling numb all over. He also saw Peter, looking like he'd seen a ghost. Remus came over very calmly and handed James a piece of chocolate.

"You might want to eat this Prongs, you'll feel better." He said with a comforting smile. James took a bite of the chocolate and instantly felt a little better, just a little.

"Thank you Healer Lupin." Sirius said sarcastically, causing Remus to roll his eyes and Peter to giggle like a school girl.

"It was a nightmare guys." James said after calming down. "I was pranked by Snape. He levitated me in to thin air and showed my underpants to everyone." James looked at his friends to see three shocked faces.

"Isn't that what you did to Snape yesterday?" Sirius asked. James nodded.

"It was just a dream, no harm done Prongs." Peter said, waving his hand like it didn't matter.

James glared at Peter for saying that. "You were all in it and Evans was too. You were all laughing and Sirius suggested that I'd be thrown into the Black Lake." James saw Sirius look like he was going to wet his pants from holding down his laughter.

"Let's go get some breakfast" Remus said, changing the subject. Everyone agreed and followed the werewolf to the Great Hall.

As the group of friends climbed down the stair case to the Entrance Hall, James saw a group of Slytherins coming out of the dungeons. He noticed Snape was among them. James thought about pranking Snape then and there but realized that the Snape hasn't done anything to be pranked…yet. So instead James continued walking into the Great Hall with two of his friends (Remus has mysteriously disappeared. From that day forward James had promised himself that he would never ever prank someone (even if they dissevered it like Snivellus) as harshly or worse like he pranked Snape the day before ever again.

In the shadows of the Entrance Hall stood one Remus Lupin. He looked like he was waiting for something, or someone.

"I'm guessing the potion worked Lupin?" A voice asked. The figure that spoke stepped out of the shadows just so Remus could tell who it was.

"It seems it did. Hopefully James has learned his lesson, Severus." Remus said as he looked at Severus Snape, who sneered.

"And if he hasn't Lupin?"Snape asked, clearly angry at the thought.

"I'm sure he has Severus but if he for some reason pranks you as harshly as he did yesterday" at this Severus flinched slightly unable to hide it, "then we can give him the potion again." Remus finished calmly.

"How can I repay you for this? What can I do?"Severus asked, surprising Remus.

Remus paused before answering unsure how to answer. "There isn't anything right now but I'm sure if I need something done that I have trouble with, I'll let you know." Remus said uneasily. Severus nodded and walked back into the shadows without a word.
