Episode - 405 - Divide and Conquer

A/N - Yay! My first Jack/Sam fic! Please be nice to me! Just for Ship Day!

The chaos was settling down. Anise and Garshaw transported Martouf back to Revanna. The President and the High Chancellor were getting along famously. Daniel was doing his thing smoothing over the rough edges of different cultures meeting.

It was Teal'c who pointed out to Jack what was wrong. Carter wasn't anywhere to be seen. Well, not that it would be that unusual, but the President was still present. Protocol and all that.

With a quick word to Hammond, Jack set out to find Carter. As he suspected, Carter was in her lab. "What'ya doin'?"

Sam jumped. She'd figured she would have at least another hour of solitude until the President left and people came looking for her. "I'm going over the data from the za'tarc. I'm trying to see how it reads the sub-conscious memory and see if there might be any practical applications here on Earth."

"Carter, can you really see this thing being used out there?" Jack gestured vaguely.

"Not really," Sam deflated a bit. "It's just..."

"It's been a hellova day," Jack agreed.

"I was afraid - earlier. When we thought we were za'tarcs. I wanted our memories to be true. I didn't want to contemplate losing that."

"Ya know, Carter. I know you said - and I agreed - to leave everything in that room." Jack was trying to figure out what he wanted to say and how.

"Sir, we can't," Sam interrupted.

"I know we can't...now. But can't sounds a lot like never. But it's there. Always. I won't say 'Not.' But can we say, 'Not yet?'"

"Yeah. I think 'not yet' works," Sam agreed with a sad smile.
