Thunderstorm

A sudden flash of light appeared outside her bedroom window and less than a second later, a loud, booming explosion erupted. Damn it. She was awaked just a moment before a big thunder strike and she hated it.

She was never a fan of thunder and other loud booming noise. It was too loud and it scared her. Hah, for a girl that had been a national Karate champion twice, no one would ever think that she was scared with thunders and lightning. Every night when it was raining badly in Karakura town, it was always with a thunderstorm outside. It was also going to be one of her sleepless night. Just like tonight.

Arisawa Tatsuki quickly her eyes shut as another lightning appeared in the sky. With that big burst of light, a thunder followed; twice as loud as the previous one and this one, much more eardrum breaking. Damn it! She hated it. She felt like crying already. It felt like as if she was in the middle of a war zone except that there were no bullets or bombs visible. Only the sound of them.

She didn't know when did her phobia of lightning and thunder had begun. All she remembered was a big thunderstorm, much like what was happening tonight, occurred when she was around five year old. She was all alone in her lit bedroom when it suddenly became very dark as a lightning and thunder appeared outside. A blackout and the fact that her brother had scared her before bedtime with his horror movies. Hell, she was scared out of her skin that night and since then, she loathed thunderstorm because it made her weak. Arisawa Tatsuki hated being weak.

Tatsuki sighed as torrents of rain poured down, hitting her house and the streets outsides. The sound was deafening. She pulled her comforter up over her head, wishing that the thunderstorm will stop. However, a moment after, a powerful thunder cracked outside that made Tatsuki almost jumped out of her skin. She was scared as hell right now and tears had, reluctantly, welled up. She hated thunderstorm, she hated rain and she hated every single thing about that sound produced from electrical discharged in the sky.

"Hey, are you okay?" a voice whispered near her ear.

Hearing his voice made Tatsuki felt calm. Him, being her one of her best friends, her classmate, her partner in Karate and her husband. How did she for get that he was in the same bed with her all this time? This must be the effect of that thunderstorm outside that scared her so much that she forgot that he was sleeping soundly beside her.

"Just the thunder, Ren..." Tatsuki mumbled.

Renji gave her assurance smiled; a smile that he always saved just for her. He wrapped his strong hands around her small frame and brought her closer to his body.

"It's okay, Tsuki... I'm here. Everything's going to be fine," Renji gave her a light squeeze on her hand.

Tatsuki only nodded. She took a deep breath and exhaled. Somehow, being inside Renji's arms had shut her away from the thunderstorm happening outside. She shifted her head around and settled comfortably on Renji's chest. Renji pulled the comforter to cover them both.

"Everything's going to be okay," Renji whispered again as he took her small hand into his and made circles using his thumb.

"Yeah..." She mumbled as her eyes became heavier by the second.

"Go to sleep. I'm here with you and not going anywhere."

"Thanks Renji..." Tatsuki murmured.

"You welcome. Now sleep," Renji said.

Tatsuki just nodded. Well, thunderstorm wasn't as bad as she initially thought. At least her husband was there beside her to calm her down during bad storm like this one. She fell asleep second later, on her husband's chest and his arms warped around her.
