"It's Miss Wells, isn't it?" Casey looked up from her book to see an attractive, sophisticated looking blonde, about ten years older than herself, standing beside the table in the college cafeteria where she was waiting for JD.
"I'm Vicky Harbison. I'm JD's computer lab partner."
"Yes. I know." Casey pinkened slightly. She hadn't meant to sound so... abrupt, but JD had been spending quite a bit of time with the woman lately, and half his sentences recently had seemed to start with 'Vicky this' or Vicky that', or 'Vicky did such and such', and if he was running late, it always seemed to be because he'd been caught up in something he was doing with 'Vicky'.
"Mind if I sit down?" The blonde didn't wait for an answer, just pulling out a chair and seating herself. "JD said the two of you had... had words."
"So?"
"So, I'm sorry if I seemed to have been monopolising him lately. We're working on a big project for class, and..."
"Why should I care?" The younger girl interrupted rudely.
The older woman's eyes never left her face as she took a sip from the coffee in her hand, and answered, bluntly "Because I'm spending a lot of time with JD, lately, and you're jealous."
"Why would I be jealous?" The girl couldn't quite hide the misery in her voice, as she looked away.
"I'm blonde, I'm busty, I'm with your boyfriend..." The older woman responded with a hint of laughter in her voice. Casey blushed.
"Look. Miss Wells." The woman paused and Casey looked up, meeting a sympathetic smile. "I'm not interested in JD. He's... not my type. Let's put it that way. Plus, I'm already involved with someone else. Whom I would never hurt by cheating on." She took another sip from her coffee cup. "JD is well aware of my... preferences, but being a man, I don't think it's even occurred to him that you might not be, or that you might be jealous of me. Men can be extremely... oblivious, sometimes." They both laughed at that.
The older woman looked across the room, and said with a smile "Look, I've got to go, but don't be too hard on JD, ok? He's a nice boy, and he has no clue why you're so mad with him, right now.
"Take care. Both of you."
With that the blonde rose and made her way across to a table by the door, putting her coffee down carefully, before sitting down and leaning in to share a deep kiss with the person already seated there.
Casey, whose gaze had followed the woman across the room, just stared, her jaw dropping, as the two embraced. A short conversation ensued - obviously about her, from the glances and smiles that were sent her way - before the couple rose and left the cafeteria, the blonde's arm wrapped firmly around the other woman's waist.
...
"Hey Casey. I'm sorry I'm late." A voice broke into her thoughts, and she looked around to see JD taking the, now unoccupied, chair next to hers.
"It's alright, JD. Its fine." She greeted him with a blazing smile and leaned over to give him a hard kiss of her own.
