It was too much.
Staring at the marble angel was going to kill him.
"Why did you do this?" he asked quietly.
"You know I had to," a voice answered him.
He didn't turn.
He couldn't stand the other's face at the moment.
"You could have prevented this."
"I had no choice. You know as well as I do that it was an order I couldn't refuse." He didn't say anything. "Do you hate me?" Again he stayed quiet. "I-I see how it is..." The man started to turn. "I have to go now...I will see you around?" The statement turned into a question at the end though the owner probably hadn't meant it to.
"You will not," he whispered so the other man couldn't hear him.
Closing his eyes as the footsteps were silenced, he pulled a short dagger out of his coat pocket and placed it against his stomach. He would have preferred to place it at his chest but he couldn't hurt the heart that had been cracked any further; he needed to save what was left of it for her.
Taking a deep breath and with a hard push, he forced the blade into himself.
Smiling, he fell to his knees slowly, blood pouring out of the wound and pooling on the ground.
"We will...be together...again," he pushed out as more blood slipped out of his mouth.
He opened his eyes to smile sweetly at the angel.
The world around him started to fade and he welcomed it.
"Wait for me...my angel...I will...be there soon..."
With a final breath, he fell to the ground; eyes still staring at the marble angel and smile still untouched on his face.
