Roy Mustang took another drink, the amber liquid burning slightly as it slid down his throat. He grimaced, then sighed lightly as he swallowed. The room swam, and people became hazy and doubled.
He didn't even notice the short, brown haired woman come in the door, her big eyes blinking away the smoke from behind her oversized glasses. It only took her a moment to find the Flame Alchemist and walked over to him, softly putting her hand on his shoulder so she wouldn't startle him.
"Roy, let's get you home." She softly whispered into his ear, giving him a light lick on the bottom of his earlobe.
He let out a long breath, drained the last of his drink, then attempted to stand up on his shaky legs, which promptly gave out from under him. He tumbled to the floor, taking Sciezka with him, and a jumble of arms and legs.
"I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry..." Roy blubbered, his voice breaking slightly, the very corners of his eyes becoming moist.
Sciezka stood up, dusted herself off, and helped Roy to his feet, putting his arm around her shoulder to keep him at least mostly upright. "It's okay. Let's go home and let you sleep this off."
"It's been 2 years, and I still can't get over it. He's gone, but I still drink myself stupid this same night every year- the night he died."
"He was your friend. I can understand why you miss him. He was a good man."
Roy nodded, staying quiet. He leaned on Sciezka and nodded his head, indicating that he was ready to go. "Thank you, Sciezka. I don't know where I would be without you."
As they slowly headed for the door, Roy could only hope that things would get better from now on.
