Speed
I am running.
Running fast. Do you know what it's like to run as fast as I can? The sights, sounds, and yes the smells. The feel of the wind on your skin. What breaking the sound barrier is like?
I thought not.
I can't tell you have fast I can go. Instruments can't measure it. Blink and you'll miss me. At top speed, when you can see the horizon there is no time to comprehend it, once you see it your already there, That's speed.
Of course that's how you would see it. Time slows for me. At my speed everything else is a crawl. It's hard to explain, it's almost like flying i suppose. When i crank it up I can't even feel the ground.
But the smells you ask? I bet you never thought of that one huh? Yes it's very noticeable. I take a breath, by the time I take another I'm miles from where I was, a whole different place. There is a new smell, a new taste with every breath. Nothing quite like it in my opinion.
I can move faster then you can act. Run faster then the fastest machine. Think as fast as... well perhaps mental movement may not be as impressive, But when your me, you make due.
As I was saying, I am running, only half speed. But don't let that fool you, half for me still goes quicker then sound can travel through air. From what I understand the sound I make is deafening, I wouldn't know.
Running through forests, past trees, over meadows. Literaly running over water, lakes and streams mostly. Don't remind me, swimming is something that I have a problem with, but why go through water when you can go over it? Heh. I never miss a step, never trip or stumble, I find a plain, miles long. Desert landscape, my favorite.
Why?
Why not? That's where I can break loose, Turn it up and go flat out, I can cruise to top speed with no distractions, I glide over sand and stone. Breeze around boulders and cacti, I'm like lightning in the desert. You can't even see my color. You'll see my dust behind me, You'll hear me after I've rushed by, But you'll never see me.
Now a new smell, The deserts past, had to slow it down a bit, Jungle now, Man oh man, gotta be careful here. No easy way through really, How do you move through jungle? Can't run you say, Well let me tell you, you're right, No flat surface in the jungle, have to go over it, Yes over, swing on branches, run on tree tops, hop, jump, glide. Take it easy, quarter speed for me. Gotta be cautious.
Green to blue, I smell salt. The ocean. Ahhhh, the ocean. Crank it back up, Can't stop here or you'll sink. This one is for distance. No sweat.
The water barley has time to move before I pass it by. I make waves, boy do I make waves. On the ocean, when going in the right direction, the sun appears to rise. It can go from day to night or night to day very fast. But not today. Nope, I leave the sun where it is, I head north, not east or west.
Getting colder now. Not that that will stop me. I move so fast the cold doesn't really affect me. But Ice, Ever run on ice? No? Well, of all surfaces, not my favorite. No traction, Gotta go fast and confident. But when am I not right?
You can really move on ice though. I don't stay in place like you would think. Longer strides are important, Ice is fun though, a decent challenge. Nothing like the jungle, and not as enjoyable as the desert, but fun.
Now Highway! Correction, thawed highway. You can really let it go on highway. Could be straighter of course. But flat even road. Nothing really beats it. Doesn't have the look though. Never liked the smell of pavment. But you can't have it all I guess.
What beats it all though, what beats top speed in the desert? What beats running on water and hoping through jungle. What's better then gliding over white ice and cruising over black pavment. What can be better then the forests?
The finish. The goal. And of course. impressing everyone with the record time. For now.
