Now honestly he knew Pete and Patrick pretty well. They were neighbors, for fuck's sake. They respected Andy's privacy and were quite polite with them. On occasion they would invite him over for dinner and chat. Pete was genuinely chippy and sometimes dramatic, and Patrick was that shy kid who picked at his sleeves and blushed a lot. They were just out of college, working at the local record store, and pretty cool kids, in Andy's respect.
That still didn't explain the kid sprawled out on his sofa.
He looked younger than Pete and Patrick, about a freshman in college, with frizzy hair all over and a scruffy beard. He had no shirt on but was thankfully wearing jeans. As far as Andy knew, he was still asleep, and snoring loudly. This displeased Andy, as it was four in the fucking morning.
All of a sudden, the boy grunted and shifted, peeking an eye out at the red-headed man standing in front of him with a pair of drumsticks. He groaned. "You're not Pete."
"Nope." Andy wasn't sure how he managed to keep calm, despite the fact that there was a fucking kid on his couch. "Pete lives next door."
"Damnit." The boy swore. He shifted so he was sitting up with his feet off of Andy's couch. "I'm Joe."
"Andy." Andy sat down next to him, placing his drumsticks on the table. Joe stretched and Andy tried to ignore the arm almost in his face.
"So Andy," Joe yawned. "I was wondering why Patrick got cats when Pete's allergic."
"Yeah." Andy scratched his head, watching the said cat play with the plant by the window. He honestly wasn't sure what to say cause goddamnit why hasn't he left yet so he stared out the window at the garden.
"You sure are weird." Joe snorted. Andy turned to him, also looking at the garden. "You look punk but your house is hippie."
"I prefer calming hobbies but I am into loud music." Andy admited. Oh my god why can't he leave yet? "Aren't you hungover? You smell like beer and you're missing a shirt."
Andy wished he hadn't said anything because now Joe had this "no shit Sherlock" face on. "I am, kinda. Is it cool if I stay till morning?"
"It is morning." Also, I hardly know you.
"Not until the sun says so."
Andy pondered this. "You can stay but only cause you're a friend of Pete and Patrick, you asked, and because I make too many pancakes for one person."
"You're making pancakes?" Joe had a delighted face on. Andy chuckled.
That's how Patrick found them two hours later, barely awake or dressed and eating a mountain of pancakes. He apologized on Joe's behalf for about half an hour and Andy kept saying it was fine, because damn that kid can eat. Joe left later for his classes (he is in college, after all) but not after exchanging number with Andy.
And of course, he showed up a week later on Andy's couch and Andy just gave him a key cause "if he was going to do that, at least don't break a window".
