My Favorite Mistake

A/N: This is a drabble inspired by Sheryl Crow's song "My Favorite Mistake"

It was another rainy day in London. Hermione was dispassionately wandering about Diagon Alley on her day off from Auror duties. It was her first day off in a month and she had had grand plans for the first day she got off after a string of murders had taunted the Ministry for weeks.

But he had spoiled that.

He said "Things weren't meant to be" and whatever nonsense she had since tried to purge her brain of.

She meandered into Flourish and Blotts and made her way to the section on magical history.

Well damn her all to hell.

A certain blonde was not twenty-five feet away in the section on dragons.

She was still wearing the Tiffany necklace he had bought her in New York City and had charmed so they could communicate while she was on missions.

She hastily pulled a book off the shelf and pretended to be very interested in its contents before she noticed the necklace heating up. Just like it did when she was on missions. Just like it did when he told her "Goodnight" or "I love you".

She noticed him briskly walking past her and towards the exit of Flourish and Blotts but not before he turned around and caught her glancing at the necklace.

"Granger."

"Oh Hello there Malfoy I didn't notice you there." She lied.

"I'm sorry." He said plaintively

She was shocked. She wouldn't let him back in after just days of letting the wounds heal so she said what she thought he might like to hear.

"You'll always be my favorite mistake." With that Draco walked out of Flourish and Blotts and out of Hermione's life for a very long time.

She turned her necklace over to read the message he sent her.

It read "I'll always love you."

The End.
