Summary: Leona Bangs...young, sullen, and trying to run from her ever haunting past, and from the fate of choosing light over dark. She expects to hide forever, until her father comes back for revenge, and yet she is saved...by the Teen Titans. But will Leona reveal her dark past? And will they accept her?
Prologue
A giant T stands in the middle of Jump City Lake. I see it everyday, on the deck of my apartment house on the Lake. It looms there, never changing, as if separated from humanity. At night, a light laminates from the top of it, sweeping over the city, like an eye.
I take it as an omen.
For months now I've been hiding here. Ever since that day at the trial, I wanted to restart my life. But I can't. I can never live a normal life. My past is twisted and confusing. I was born into a gang, my father being the leader. When I was born my mother tried to take me away from the life I would have to endure. Before she could do anything, my father killed her, sparing my life.
I was the heir. At the age of 13 I took my test into the gang. All the members lined up, once across from the other. Bracing myself I walked down the two lines. Instantly I felt the kicks, the punches, the grabbing, and scratching spitting. By the time I reached the center, my ribs were cracked, my skin was spangled with bruises, and my vision blurred. But if I stayed there they would kill me. So I struggled to the end. I was nearly dead, but I made it.
And I regret it.
The pain was not worth it. I should have died when I had the chance. And now, because of who I am, because of my mistake, because of the one good choice I made, I'm sitting here looking off at that great big T in the middle of the lake, with the light swooping across.
And I just know it's my dad watching for me.
