"Surely you don't desire being locked up in this dreary old place all day," he proclaimed, yanking my arm gently as to further show his dislike for my lack of movement. I simply shook my head slightly, refusing to remove my attention from the half completed project that lay before me. Usually, I could easily be persuaded to accompany him on an expedition, but today my sketchbook was begging me to complete my work and I kept my foot down. I would not be going.

Sensing that I was to be more stubborn today, Will was left with no option but to beg and plead until I was too embarrassed to refuse. And so he did, dropping to his knees, clasping his hands, and breaking into an elegant speech.

"Dearest Maria, I would love for you to do me the honor of accompanying me on a stroll across the park, " he began, deep blue eyes blinking at me innocently . "However, since it seems my love is unrequited, I have no choice but to wish with all my heart that your kind and sweet nature will allow this desperate man a mere half an hour with you to ease his shattered heart."

At his words, I was shocked. I was not used to such flattery from anyone, and certainly not Will. His words were usually teasing, about my short height or constantly awkward nature. Never before had he said such words, and although I knew they were only being said as persuasion, I could not help but blush profusely. "Stop it Will, you're embarrassing me," I whispered, despite the fact that he and I were alone in the library and there was nobody for me to be ashamed around. He smirked in response to my obvious discomfort.

"I'll only stop if you join me," he answered, voice mocking but firm as he held his hand out towards me. I moved my head away from the page, planning to refuse. However I was stopped the moment I looked up at his face as I saw the desperation and subtle shyness echoed in his eyes. It seemed he was not bothering me simply out of boredom, but because he truly wanted me to accompany him. Startled with what I had realized, I placed my hand on his and stood up. "Well then I suppose I must go, if there is not other option," I said in a light tone, sending a shy smile towards him as we began to move out of the library and down the empty and shadowed halls of the Institute. We continued our way out in comfortable silence until we reached the gates, where he paused suddenly. I glanced at him in surprise, only to have my question on his weird actions to be answered a second later.

"I meant every word I said, and I'm really glad you're with me Maria," he announced quietly and nervously. I sensed his worry, and as a quick action, I laced my fingers with his and sent him a smile to let him know that I was glad too.
