Fireplace Confession

An Alternate Universe Vignette

"You are in my very soul, tormenting me. I will do anything you ask," Anakin said, averting Padmé's gaze, steeling himself for what she was to say next. His heart was pounding. Time seemed to stop.

"I…" He glanced up at her as she swallowed and said, "have feelings for you too."

"And?"

She inched closer to him. "I've been fighting them ever since you came back into my life, a grown man. And I won't fight anymore." Padmé caressed his cheek with her fingertips.

Anakin leaned toward her, closing his eyes. His lips found hers and his body seemed to catch on fire as they kissed. He reached around her waist with both arms and pulled her body against his. Their kisses grew deeper and he could feel Padmé's hands running up his back.

They stopped, gasping, looking at each other in shocked but exhilarated silence. Padmé's lips were a little swollen and even in the firelight, he could see that her cheeks were bright red. "Oh Ani," she said, "What are we going to do now?"

The answer came spontaneously. "We could keep it a secret," he said.
