I took a small break from writing In Lightning's Wake to write this: my first songfic. Tell me what you think and tell me if you want more.
DISCLAIMER: I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or the song Fix You.
Fix You by Coldplay
When you try your best but, you don't succeed.
When you get what you want, but not what you need.
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep.
Stuck in reverse.
Aang sits on the roof of Zuko's family summer home, where they've been staying at. That day, Sokka suggested going to see the play The Boy in the Iceberg. The play ended in disaster- in more ways than one.
The group got back late, and everyone went straight to bed. Aang tossed and turned for a long time. The conversation with Katara played over and over in his head. Eventually Aang decided that he wouldn't get any sleep tonight, so he climbed on top of the house to think.
And the tears come streaming down your face.
When you lose something you can't replace.
When you love someone, but it goes to waste.
Could it be worse?
Unshed tears fill up the airbender's eyes, and make the world blurry.
'Why did I have to kiss her like that? I'm such an idiot!' He thinks to himself.
Aang wipes away the tears, and tries to find the bright side, 'She could have shoved me away. She could have told me that she doesn't care about me at all… but she must hate me now.'
Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones.
And I will try to fix you.
Like a flash of lightning, Aang remembers opening his chakras with Guru Pathik.
And high above or down below.
When you're too in love to let it go.
But if you never try, you never know
just what you're worth.
What if he'd just let Katara go? Would he be feeling this rejection right now? Could he even let her go? He doesn't think so.
'If Katara doesn't love me back-'Aang can't finish the thought.
Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones.
And I will try to fix you.
The airbender remembers the kiss in the Cave of Two Lovers, which seems so long ago. Did the kiss mean anything to her, like it did to him? Did she love him then? If she did, then what changed that?
Tears stream down your face.
When you lose something you cannot replace.
Aang doesn't bother to wipe away the tears now, as they roll down his cheeks. He wonders how this will affect their friendship. They'd been so close before, 'I had to go and make it complicated.'
Tears stream down your face, and I…
Tears stream down your face. I promise you I will learn from my mistakes.
'I shouldn't have forced her to make a decision.' Aang thinks.
He vows to himself that he will not bring their relationship again. Aang wants her to decide when she's ready to tell him she has feelings for him.
Not feeling any better, the Avatar stares at the beach, while tears still slide out of his eyes..
Tears stream down your face, and I…
Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones.
I will try to fix you.
