The fifth part of my 100 Themes Challenge is more Monster Swap/OC stuff(:
Monster Swap is a personalised fandom I created based on my love for Pokemon/Digimon/Yu-Gi-Oh and the like. The structure is explained throughout some of the challenges, but it's mostly restricted and secretive.
To be honest, you don't need to know much about it to understand the stories(:
The books are spread over the bed, my pencil rolls absently from my fingertips and I continue to bat it purposelessly back and forth, my hair partly covvering one half-lidded eye.
The windows are open; not too wide but wide enough for the idle breeze of late Spring to bat my teru teru bozu towards me then reel him back so he is left hinging absently and tensely, awaiting the next light wind to push him forward again.
The jotter in front of me is scrawled with notes written months ago, lazily, unintentioned. They hung only with bare echoes of what my teacher was saying but I can't hear these echoes now.
I lift the jotter, it's pencil letters disappearing from my uninterested sight and watch the wind toss it's pages along with the teru teru bozu.
The pages kiss the wind and sink back down again, the notes ruffled and useless now.
I don't try to give a damn, I just drop the jotter and curl my arms back into myself.
A single object lies next to the litter of paper and hardback notebooks. Gently, I brush it into my palm and take my time looking at it.
A tiny charm, no bigger than one of my fingernails, in the shape of a leaf. It's wooden and warm and when I close my fingers around it, it becomes lost amongst my skin.
My mind remains blank and desolate.
Giving up, I get to my feet, stride to my desk- elbowing books and papers out of the way in my wake- and sit down on my stool.
There rests a complex headset with built in headphones and several USBs and connection cables I tore out ruthlessly before I sat down to my 'work'.
Taking my time, I press everything carefully back into the correct place and let my index finger apply the necessary pressure to the silver button in the centre of the keyboard.
The cooler fan whirs to life and I feel a rumbling course through my body. Slowly, I raise the chunky head piece and place it in my head.
As soon as my password and details are logged in, I load the necessary programmes for the headset to fire up. Then, with multiple swift and secret clicks, I draw up a small window labelled 'Cyber Server'.
Double clicking, the headset beeps for a good three seconds before blanking my vision and restoring it with vibrant scenery and clear, blue skies littered only with clouds and what-appear-to-be birds.
Seeking solace and breathing deeply, a bouncing shape joins me by me side. I run my hands through her leafy hair and she purrs.
"Sorry. I wasn't cut out to pass exams." I told her with a foreshadowing chuckle. "Let's do something productive."
I spot a target and pick up my game controller.
