The streets of Vale were dark as rain fell upon a young woman stumbling along the sidewalk, using her umbrella to support herself. She was wounded, but she didn't know why. She had found herself in a deserted alleyway two days ago with no idea how she'd gotten there. She only remembered a few snippets of anything- someone calling her name, a sense of failure, and pain. So. Much. Pain. Aside from that, Neo had nothing- no memories, no place to stay, no food. I might as well give up here, she thought as she collapsed on the ground.
"Hey, are you okay? Do you need help?" someone called. Neo opened her eyes to find a brown-haired, green-eyed girl leaning over her. The girl looked into her eyes and gasped. "You…" Here it comes. Neo thought. I probably did something to her. I just hope I die quickly. "You have amnesia, don't you. You can't remember anything?" Neo was surprised, but she nodded. "All right then. We need to get you to a hospital." Looking around, she continued, "The closest one is probably the infirmary at Beacon." Neo's head swam as the girl picked her up, and everything went black.
Neo regained consciousness soon after, to the sound of two voices having some sort of argument. Opening her eyes, she saw that they were in a large arched doorway, a girl with purple eyes and ridiculously long blond hair standing in front of the doors. "Are you absolutely CRAZY, Edie?" She yelled at the person carrying Neo. "You can't bring HER into the school!"
"Yang, she's hurt." The girl now known as Edie replied.
"So what? She deserves it after she tried to kill me!" Yang screamed. Great. Neo thought. So she's going to kill me.
"I know what she did! I've known who she was since I saw her! Need I remind you that you practically shouted her appearance to the entire mess hall? In very. Loud. Detail?"
Yang huffed at that, but Edie continued rolling.
"But right now, she's severely wounded and has no memory! I have to get her to the infirmary!"
Yang rolled her eyes. "And how would you know if she had no memories? Last I checked, she couldn't talk!"
"Yang." The cold fury and hurt in Edie's eyes made even Yang take a step back. "I know what amnesia looks like. Now let. Me. Through."
Unable to speak, the blond girl stepped aside. Edie carried Neo through the doors and up some steps, into a room marked INFIRMARY. Laying her down on a bed, she conversed with a nurse in low tones before turning back to Neo.
"I have to go for right now. Just try to rest, okay? I'll talk to Professor Ozpin and we'll figure everything out when you wake up." She turned to go, but Neo grabbed her arm. Looking at Neo's face, she laughed. "Don't worry, you'll be fine. The doctors here are really good, and Yang won't try to hurt you while you're healing. She won't stoop that low."
Neo shrugged and let go. Thank you, she tried to make her eyes say. Edie nodded. "No problem." And with that, she exited the room, and Neo descended into blackness for the second time that day.
When she woke up, light was streaming through the window at the other end of the infirmary, and a grey-haired man in a green jacket was sitting in a chair next to her bed. Startled, Neo sat bolt upright, wincing as the movement jarred her hurt- well, everything- and scooted away from him. The man laughed. "Hello. My name is Professor Ozpin. I am the headmaster of this school, Beacon Academy. I take it you are Neopolitan?" Neo nodded, then looked around for something to write with. Ozpin handed her a pad of paper and a pen. When she looked at him in surprise, Ozpin explained "I have already been informed of your condition." Neo scribbled something down, then handed the pad back to him. His eyebrows rose as he read the sentence: Are you going to kill me?
"Of course not! Why would you..." Ozpin trailed off when he saw Neo had taken the pad again and was scribbling feverishly.
I don't remember anything. I know I did something bad. I don't know what, but that blond girl in the entryway- Yang, or something- said I tried to kill her. And I know I messed up in some way- I remember feeling like I'd failed as whoever it was did this to me. I've been waiting for someone to come put me out of my misery since I woke up in an alley two days ago.
"Interesting..." Ozpin muttered as he read what she had written. "Well, since we're not going to kill you- we're not monsters, after all- what you have here raises an interesting question: what are we going to do? I'm sure there are some who would love to see you imprisoned, but I think we should take this in an entirely different direction. Considering you have no memory, I believe you should be given a second chance." He leaned closer.
"To wit, Neo, would you like to join my school?"
Author's Note: Hey everyone! Garnet here!
This is just a little tidbit I wrote while working on my other projects. I love Neo so much! Anyways, before anyone asks, Edie is NOT a canon character- she's created entirely for this story. Not sure how big of a part she's gonna have, but I wanted to put her in there early to have some options. Please leave reviews- they help me a lot in the writing process!
