A/N: Angelofjoy was going through Qweb withdrawal but I'm not ready to start posting my next Five-0 chapter story, so here's a little tag to episode 3.3 just to "tide" her over.

Panic on the Pacific

Steve McGarrett was about ready to slap his partner to stop his hysterical babble. Crouched in the deflating dinghy, Danny Williams rambled on, demanding Steve do the impossible and worrying about every possible danger under the sea.

Steve enjoyed a good Danny rant and often provoked them just for the entertainment value, but this was no time for it. The Navy SEAL was in full survival mode because this was serious.

But before Steve could snap at Danny to shut up, he was silenced by the look in his partner's eyes. This wasn't the mix of concern and aggravation Steve glimpsed during wild car chases and gun battles. This was outright terror, the soul-searing fear Steve had only seen when Grace had been kidnapped. Hell, Danny hadn't looked that frightened when he'd been dying from sarin poisoning!

Also, Steve realized Danny's panic wasn't hindering the rescue efforts — such as they were. His hand was steady holding the tube that Steve knotted into a makeshift plug and he was trying to help by paddling, even though that would never work.

So Steve held his tongue and let Danny deal with his fear in his own way, pouring it out like vomit until he'd expelled the poison of panic. As much as he wanted to know why Danny had such an intense reaction, Steve didn't ask. He knew Danny would tell him eventually. Danny always told him eventually.
