His eyes were like lasers. It was... unsettling.

She wasn't particularly at ease around Sarek. Though she understood this to be typical behavior, she'd found him a bit blunt. Nonetheless, working with an interplanetary embassy was an opportunity to experience this culture up close without leaving home.

Her consulting work was almost done. Two weeks ago, she'd finally convinced the Ambassador to eat with his hand when meeting with the Earth Ambassador to the Middle East. And not his left hand.

This charmed the Earth Ambassador, and by the evening's close, he treated Sarek like a brother. One who didn't particularly like being touched, but a brother nonetheless..

She now sat in his office, on the receiving end of that stare.

She handed him a PADD. "Here is the report you requested on the recent political developments in Sri Lanka." Their fingers barely touched as he accepted it.

"Ms. Grayson," Sarek changed the subject. "I have requested your time with us at the embassy be extended by six months."

"May I ask why?"

"I find your intricate knowledge of Earth cultures to be quite helpful," he answered coolly.

She knew this was a great compliment, coming from a Vulcan.

Pausing first, she replied, "I will.. let you know."

She wanted to unsettle him, for once.

"I will endeavor not to hold my breath," Sarek replied, still staring. He was practicing his English idioms.

Amanda looked away, and smiled. It would be something, working six more months with this odd, interesting man.
