This was a request from Mega07ghost who wanted a fic where either Simon or Avery was hurt. I hope you like it!

"Simon!" Avery yelled, racing over to him as fast as she could. He didn't answer, he couldn't. There was blood soaking his shirt, too much for him to pinpoint where the bullet went in. Avery reached him, fear in her eyes. He leaned against her, eyelids drooping.

"Come on, Simon, stay with me. Look at me, just focus on me. Please." Her voice broke at the end; Simon was the best friend she'd ever had. She didn't know what she'd do if she lost him.

He groaned, lifting his head up to face her. "Are the others okay?" The cyber team had been lured into a trap, where snipers had been waiting for their arrival. Avery nodded.

"Everyone's fine. We need you to stay strong, alright? The ambulance will be here soon." That was her Simon, always worried about others, never himself.

He forced his eyes to remain open and concentrated on Avery's face. But the corners of his vision were blurring and he could feel his strength dwindling. Colors began to mix together and he could feel Avery shaking him gently, begging him to stay awake. But no matter how much he tried, the warm, sleepy feeling didn't go away. It got stronger and stronger until he could no longer resist and his eyes drooped shut, his head falling on Avery's shoulder.

Silent tears streamed down her face and she held him close, hoping that her self will alone would make the ambulance come sooner.

Then, as if by a miracle, sirens wailed into the parking lot and flashing lights enveloped the building. Paramedics rushed in, and pried Simon away from Avery.

They stuck him with needles for reasons she didn't know and shouted things she didn't understand, pushing her away from his stretcher.

All she wanted was for him to be okay. She hoped with every bit of hope she had left that he would. She felt oddly separate in that moment, like the blood and shouting and flashing lights were from another world entirely. For a second it was only her and the towering gray walls that lead upwards and blocked the sky.

Then the trance was broken as a paramedic approached her and asked for her to accompany him to the hospital. She said yes, of course, and held his hand in the ambulance, trying desperately not to think about how pale and limp it was.

A few hours after his surgery, Avery was finally allowed to see him. She walked into the hospital room, swallowing hard and trying to get the fuzzy feeling out of her throat. She pulled a chair up next to the bed and smiled at him. His breathing was slow and steady, his heart rate normal. Her own began to calm as she watched the monitor, feeling her fear finally wear off.

"Avery." Simon murmured weakly. She looked down, grasping his hand.

"You're awake," She took a deep breath, but Simon spoke before she could.

"Thank you... for being there." He was still weak and had to pause a moment before continuing. "You have always caught me when I fell, always taken care of me." He locked eyes with Avery, giving her a heartfelt smile with every ounce of strength he had. "You've been there for me... for more than just work. You've been my best friend, and I couldn't ask for a better one."

Avery gazed at him, tears in her eyes. Simon had given her so much, encouraged and fostered her ambitions in cyber and comforted her through the ups and downs of life. If there was one thing she knew for certain, it was that there was no one else she would rather be best friends with than Simon.

At a loss for words to describe exactly what she wanted to say, Avery turned to him and promised him something she would never, ever, break.

"I will always be there for you, no matter what."
