It had always been dark.
Dark like the house she shared with her father.
Dark like the room when the power was turned off when her father still took care of the bills.
Dark like the emptiness of her heart, after her mother died.
Riza dreamed of the day that it would be light. She wondered if it was even possible. As the years went by, no matter how much she cleaned, it never got any brighter.
Until he came.
It wasn't sudden. It was a slow process that she had missed until they stood over her father's grave and he told her his dram.
It was like her eyes had been closed her whole life. She had to squint at the light that she had never noticed radiating off him.
As he left, she saw the light, she knew the way and she knew she would follow him, that light until the darkness was gone.
