Couldn't quite get this little bit out of my head.
Sharon couldn't quite restrain her smile. She'd tried. She'd even been able to succeed at work, mostly, but now... Now, she thought the smile might never leave her face again.
It had started last night. He'd asked her to dinner. Nothing unusual there, except this was dinner at a romantic restaurant. Dinner at a romantic restaurant equals a romantic dinner equals a date. A date. A date with Andy Flynn. A romantic dinner date with her very dear friend, Andy Flynn. A date with kind, considerate, intelligent, funny Andy Flynn who she could almost certainly, quite easily and effortlessly fall helplessly and hopelessly in love with.
She had fallen asleep last night with the smile unrestrained and woken with it still on her lips. It hadn't disappeared until she stepped off the elevator, and even then, it had skirted beneath the surface all morning, occasionally peeking out through her eyes when she glanced through her office window toward a certain desk. The only time that it had faltered and almost fled were when she remembered that he hadn't technically called their dinner a date. What if it was just dinner at a romantic restaurant? It could be. It might just be possible that he wanted to try a new restaurant. With a friend. A close friend who would never be more. The thought had her smile sinking into her chest and causing a curious tightness there. A tightness that had her opening the door to her office with the need to walk, to go, to get away for just a little while.
Then, he glanced her way with a look on his face that she could only describe as joy. Pure, total, unabashed joy. The smile returned for just a moment before she tamped it down. Not here. Not now. From the corner of her eye, she saw that he glanced at the clock at the same time she did. Three hours.
She met his eyes and saw her smile reflected back.
No, the smile would never leave now.
