Harry scowled at the sleeping form of Dean Thomas a few beds away from him, snoring away. He knew he shouldn't, well, hate Dean, that was Ron's job, but still.
There was a monster in his chest that wanted to tear Dean to pieces.
Harry himself was surprised by the animosity that he harbored towards his roommate. Ever since he had seen him snogging Ginny in that corridor… Harry suddenly felt the monster roaring again.
During the week after 'The Incident' Harry found himself fantasizing about offing Dean Thomas. Most of these methods were bloody and oddly satisfying. In Charms, he had fancied pushing Dean off the Astronomy Tower. In Astronomy…well, the temptation was extremely hard to ignore, especially when Dean had set up his telescope right next to Harry's.
At the lake, Harry found himself wishing Dean were there, so he could feed him bit by bit to the Giant Squid. In Potions, Harry felt himself wanting to feed Dean bit by bit to the greasy Potions Master. The medieval maces and swords the many suits of armor carried looked extremely attractive when Dean would kiss Ginny good morning in the Great Hall, the nasty hexes in the Restricted Section looked…enticing when Dean and Ginny were 'studying' in the back corner of the library.
Harry didn't know why he wanted to kill Dean. It was now a subconscious urge to want destroy Dean's face…and his arms, and especially his-
Ahem.
Anyway, Harry found himself consciously making Dean's life miserable. With considerable help from the twins, Harry was planting itching power in Dean's trousers, hiding his clothes in the Common Roo so he had to get them starker's, bewitching his clock to attack Dean when it was time to wake up, charm his football posters to make rude gestures when his back was turned, all pranks that Fred and George would scoff at, but Harry felt rather proud of himself.
Then, wonder of wonders, Dean and Ginny broke up.
The monster in his chest, he had noticed it looked remarkably like a Hungarian Horntail, had started sprouting fireworks from its ugly head, giving him a spring in his step and a smile on his bespectacled face.
The detention Snape gave him during the last game of the season put a damper on his good mood. However, Harry was proud of this, if Snape hadn't given him detention, he never would have kissed Ginny Weasley.
If he wasn't so totally in love with Ginny, he might have dated her just to get that look on Dean's face.
Much better than disembowelment.
