Disclaimer: I don't own Fullmetal Alchemist or its characters. Or the song (Pirate's Bride) that somehow inspired this.
Notes: Slight spoilers for the movie, but also alternate ending-ish.
The Alchemist's Bride
Alfons' grip on the railing tightened, and his eyes travelled the skies again.
The night air was chill and unnerving, but he paid it no mind.
He took in a deep, shaky breath, but never once closed his eyes for more than the split second of blinking.
He couldn't afford to miss it – he'd watch the skies, night after night, watching the cycle of the moon and the stars through that great, expansive black. He'd watch for every falling star, or light in the sky.
Waiting…
Night after night he stood on this rooftop.
Miss Gracia got married, and sold the apartment…Alfons got a home nearby.
The doctor's forbid him to work on the rockets, anymore, and he was told he should move to Berlin to be closer to the capital's hospital…Alfons moved a bit closer to the hospital in Munich.
And every night he returned, to watch the skies.
He was skinny, pale, and sickly all around – even after he was assigned a young, bright, cheerful blonde nurse to care for him, who obviously held an interest…
He just waited.
Any day he knew he'd see it.
Years may have passed, and his time was nearly up…
But he knew one day he'd see it.
He'd see that ship soaring the sky…
And Edward would return to him.
