First Chapter: Cat Smell
Caven Dardis was just another normal teenage boy, or so he thought. Caven lived in New York City, or as some may call it the city that never sleeps. He thought this name was highly inaccurate, because all his neighbors ever did was sleep as far as he could tell. At 9:00 p.m. the neighborhood would become extremely quite. Every light in every house would flicker off at the exact same time. It was like there was a curfew. Caven found it quit annoying to be sent to bed at 9 p.m. and would usually go and hide out in the attic.
The attic was extremely small, old, dusty, dark, dank, and smelled like cats, but oddly enough it was Caven's favorite place. He thought that even though it was small, it was cozy. He found it a surprise that something that old hadn't been bulldozed over and turned in to a Piggly Wiggly. The dust in the room covered up the puke green walls. The darkness made it feel mysterious. Since it was dank, it didn't have the feeling that you were breathing in hot hollow air. There was nothing Caven liked about the smell of dead cats, but it made the room distinguishable.
Caven spent most of his time in the attic and he had tried to move his bed up there. He didn't know why the room seemed so appealing to him but it did for some reason. Caven usually stayed up in the attic until 3:00 in the morning staring out the window at the sky. He was never brave enough to use a flashlight thinking that his parents might find out and not allow him to go up to the attic anymore.
Looking out on to the street, Caven wondered about its name, Alfarn Alley. He thought who ever had come up with it had to be completely mental. Naming a street where a bunch of old people live and alley. Putting Alfarn in front of it made it even worse he thought. Alfarn sounded like a word that was made by a 2 year old.
Still, he did grow to like the name. As you can see, Caven can grow to like almost anything really.
But what was about to happen, he would probably never grow to like, but he might just grow to love.
