Comments: Just a possible epilogue to KH2, a way in which Axel to comes back to life. A could-be prologue to another fic I'm working on.
It's very quiet. Axel stays very still. He's being watched, he knows, but when he opens his eyes he can't see, so he lies there. Waiting.
It's very dark. Axel's afraid, but he'll never admit it. Nobodies aren't supposed to fear. Nobodies aren't supposed to feel. Axel keeps still, keeps waiting.
Time doesn't pass here, not in a conventional sense. Not in any sense Axel ever understood before. Time's measured in how long until he can move another part of his body. It started with his little finger and then soon he could clench a fist. He can almost sit now, but his legs still won't do what he wants. There's light growing in the darkness, but Axel keeps his eyes shut.
Eventually his toe moves. Finally. A little later he can flex his leg. Feeling is travelling up his thigh, tingling. He doesn't think he's ready yet and clenches his eyes tighter than ever. Outside his little world the light grows almost blinding.
The watchers leave. Who watched the Watchers? Wonders Axel. He doesn't understand how, but he feels the weight of their stares lifted. Like a weight off his chest. He takes a breath and sits, swinging his legs over the edge of the slab he's lain on since he can remember. He's almost ready. Clenches his eyes tighter than ever, one last time, and opens them.
The room is a glaring white. He's ready now. A door lies open opposite him and he stands and smiles. Flexes his hands and feels his chakrams settle in them, walks out the door and doesn't look back.
